TheDepartment‟s Policy “Chemical Safety in <strong>School</strong>s (1999)” clearly states: “It is m<strong>and</strong>a<strong>to</strong>ry that <strong>students</strong>carrying out practical activities using chemicals or equipment in schools wear enclosed leatherfootwear. S<strong>and</strong>als, open footwear or high heeled shoes must not be worn in workshops orlabora<strong>to</strong>ries”.ACCEPTABLE STYLES: The schoolexpects that <strong>students</strong> wear closed-inleather, lace-up style shoes. Theymust cover the <strong>to</strong>p of the foot <strong>and</strong>have a small heel, similar <strong>to</strong> the twoshown at left.STYLES THAT ARE NOTACCEPTABLE: Students MUST NOTwear skate shoes, soft “ballet” style shoes, open styled “Mary Jane” shoes, canvas shoes or anysimilar shoe.
