Over the course of the day, he retrieves a manuscriptfrom a publisher and meets Minjae at a coffee shop where she offers to editit. He then meets Bokyung, taking her to a hotel to have sex. Afterwards,he leaves her in order to meet another publisher, then rejoins her forcoffee at an art gallery. Finally, that night, he attends a dinner in honor ofanother writer. During dinner Hyosup becomes increasingly drunk andbelligerent and, finally, is arrested and sentenced to five days in jail.The second part introduces Dongwoo, Bokyung’s overly hygienic husband,as he boards a bus for what will be a trouble-plagued businesstrip to Jinju. To begin with, the trip unexpectedly takes longer than itshould after the passenger seated beside him throws up on his shoes. Then,because Dongwoo leaves the bus at its next stop to clean up, he has to takeanother bus and arrives late for his business appointment. However, theappointment never takes place that day because the manager he is supposedto meet never returns to his office. Between revisits to the office in hopesof having the meeting, Dongwoo first kills time in a restaurant, thenvisits a friend in his apartment. After the appointment is rescheduled forthe following day, Dongwoo spends the night in a small hotel where hehas sex with a prostitute. Because his condom breaks during intercourse,Dongwoo stops at a clinic the following morning where he learns thathe will have to wait 40 days to see whether he has contracted a venerealdisease as a result of the accident.The film’s third part follows Minjae as she buys a pair of boots as a surprisebirthday present for Hyosup on the way to her job selling tickets ina run-down movie theater. While at work, she edits Hyosup’s manuscriptand, at one point, sneaks away to apply for a better-paying job dubbingvideo sound tracks. After work, she drops off Hyosup’s manuscript at hispublisher, and then buys a birthday cake, meaning to surprise him withit, too. She is the one who is surprised, however, because when she arrivesat his apartment she finds Bokyung is there.
