EditorialEdit April -2013Me too! This month of March , I remember hadarrived in a hurry and marching its marchpast quickly enough too. Now the month ofApril is here and the great English poetT.S.Eliot had famously called it the cruelestmonth of the year .Don’t exactly rememberwhy he so fumed and fretted over this prettymonth of April , it has been a long time sinceI read his epic poem, The Waste Land. But I am sure if I go a bit late today [March29, 2013] in sending this edit piece to oureditor Seraj bhai , he would be fuming andfretting a bit more. Already our brothersShakeel bhai and Seraj bhai both seem tohave lost their battles with me; which isabout making me computer literate or atleast putting me to grasp the nuances ofmaking a folder for all the requisite files forBakhabar.Yeah, like you, Me too ,have sympathies forthese two of my finest [and patient]brothers. So rest of the story, next monthTill then take care and enjoy! By M Naushad Ansari,Patna: “Role of media in promoting peace and communal harmony ismostly negative. Media, indeed, spread bitterness”, believes seniorjournalist and eminent columnist of The Telegraph, Soroor Ahmad.Addressing a talk on ‘Role of media in promoting peace and communalharmony’ at Patna Book Fair on March 23, Ahmed, in his scholarly speech, said that peace and communal harmony is essential for development, butunfortunately, media sabotage it.As long as media remains silent on social issues, peace and communalharmony will be present. The moment media starts playing things, mostlyfor sensationalization and susceptibility to market forces, peace getsdisturbed.Today is the time of explosion of information, particularly by electronicmedia and socialnetworking. Thisrapid diffusion of the internet and the rise of dedicated social platformsdramatically changed the infrastructure of social connectivity. Todayanybody is capable to plant news, without knowing its far reachingrepercussions.Loyalty to the public interest and social values has taken back seat, hesaid. The advancement in technology media has become all-pervasive,wide and deep.Maulana Abdul Majid Qasmi, Secretary General of Shanti Sandesh Kendr,Patna, stressed that though there are various writers and journalists whoare honest, truth loving and unbiased, there is, unfortunately, a section inthe media, which is less responsible and they believe in promotingdisintegration.Quoting from Geeta and Holy Quran, Maulana said that speaking truth isthe essence of all religions in the world. Over the years, the problem ofcommunalism has adversely affected progress of this country. Timedemands that social values and loyalty to the public interest is givenprime importance. ‘Development will be rapid only in a peaceful society’,he asserted.Dr. Abdul Hai, a renowned surgeon and social worker presided over thefunction. He emphasized that various clashes take place because ofmisinformation about the issues. It has now been widely recognized thatthe print, electronic and other forms of social media can effectively play avery significant role in promoting communal harmony and peace. Weneed to use all possible sources of media to clear the cobwebs ofmisunderstanding among different communities. The organization’s website www.shantisandeshkendr.org was alsolaunched by Dr. Abdul Hai on the occasion. He is certainlyaware of and sees His servants.” ( Surat al-Isra', 17:96)Allah has no beginning and no end, is the sole absolute Being, and is notbound by such human concepts as time or space. Therefore, everythingthat ever happens, regardless of whether it happened in the past, thepresent, or the future, are the same in—and are fully known to—His Sight. He knows everything, whether it is done in secret or in public, in darknessor in light, while alone or while in a crowd. Being ignorant, people assumethat what they do at night might conceal their sins and hide them as well. But such hopes are futile, for the Qur'an states:Do you not see that Allah knows what is in the heavens and on Earth?Three men cannot confer together secretly without Him being the fourth,or five without Him being the sixth, or fewer than that or more withoutHim being with them wherever they are. Then He will inform them on theDay of Rising of what they did. Allah has knowledge of all things. ( Suratal-Mujadala, 58:7)Allah is fully knowledgeable of everyone's intentions, thoughts, and deedsat every moment. Each of us will be called to account for all of these onthe Day of Judgment. People who deny these truths will understand theirmistake on the Day of Judgment. As “On the Day Allah raises up all ofthem together, He will inform them of what they did. Allah has recorded itwhile they have forgotten it. Allah is a Witness of all things” ( Surat al-Mujadala, 58:6) maintains, in the Hereafter we will be repaid for each oneof our deeds:You do not engage in any matter, recite any of the Qur'an, or do any actionwithout Our witnessing you while you are occupied with it. Not even thesmallest speck eludes your Lord, either on Earth or in heaven. Nor is thereanything smaller than that, or larger, which is not in a Clear Book. (SurahYunus, 10:61)But Allah bears witness to what He has sent down to you. He has sent itdown with His knowledge. The angels bear witness as well. And Allahsuffices as a Witness. ( Surat an-Nisa', 4:166)Whether We show you something of what We have promised them or takeyou back to Us, they will still return to Us. Then Allah will be witnessagainst what they are doing. (Surah Yunus, 10:46)We will show them Our Signs on the horizon and within themselves until itis clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not enough for your Lord that He isa witness of everything? While this n o tincident has placed South Africa squarely in the international v e r ylimelight as being the ‘Rape Capital’ of the world with an differestimated 683 000 incidents of rape annually, it has to be stated ent tothat Rape is an international phenomenon that takes place both t h ein developed and developing countries, in countries situatitraditionally classified as ‘civilised’ and ‘first world’ as well as o nthose known as ‘uncivilised’ and ‘third world’. While we can go t h a tdown the route of making this issue a ‘numbers game’ and womedeclaring the country with the lowest incidence of rape to bemost civilised, the fact of the matter is that even one rape is onetoo much. Rape is reflective of a deep-seated, systemicdysfunctionality of a society wherein women are treated withtotal disrespect having no value.n found themselves in during the period of Jaahiliya (Ignorance)On the scale of ‘ill treatment and disrespect shown to women’of pre Islamic Arabia. Be mindful in yourtreatment of women! This venerated position of women was imprinted on the psyche of every maleof the society. This was achieved through equating the service and happinessof parents to great and meritorious acts like striving in the Path of Allah andHijrah (migration) for the sake of Allah. Such was the zeal with which the oncemale dominated society treated and served their women that a companiononce carried his mother on his back to allow for her to fulfil the rights of theHaj (Pilgrimage) and yet thereafter acknowledging that he had not fulfilledthe right of her one ‘turning’ towards him as an infant out of concern for hiswell being. The Noble Messenger of Allah(peace be upon him) also said, ‘Among theMuslims the most perfect, as regards his faith, is the one whose character isexcellent, and the best among you are those who treat their women well’(Hadith-Tirmidhi). In another narration it is mentioned ‘I command you totake good care of the women’ (Hadith-Bukhari) and also, ‘Do not beat Allah’sfemale servants (i.e women)’ (Hadith-Abu Da’ud, Ibn Majah). The NobleMessenger of Allah(peace be upon him) also said ‘How does anyone of youbeat his wife as he beats his camel and then embraces her?’ (Hadith-Al-Bukhari)Based on the above some scholars like Ata bin Rabah (May Allah’s mercy bewith him) stated, the fact that the Noble Messenger of Allah(pbuh) neverresorted to the permission of beating and said, ‘He who beats his wife is not agood person’ (Hazimi, al-Itibar)From the above we learn that Islam encourages the kind treatment of womenand forbids in both word and spirit, their abuse in any form, be it physical, verbal, emotional and psychological. It therefore stands to reason that rape issomething that Islam condemns in the strongest terms and, in fact a rapist inan Islamic country would be sentenced to death by the Islamic courtsIt was this type of thought that permeated the psyche of Muslim societiesfrom the time of the Noble Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) until thisday and any behaviour to the contrary by Muslims today is nothing other thantheir deviation from the principles advocated by Islam and the lifestyle of theNoble Messenger of Allah(pbuh). Issues like honour killings and spousalabuse in Muslim societies which are often highlighted in the media and forwhich Islam is criticised are practices that have their place in culture and haveno basis in the Qur’aan and Sunnah. Shariah always has an ‘inner’ as well as an‘outer’ mechanism that are used to achieve its objectives. In the issuediscussed, if the psyche of the society could be described as the ‘inner’mechanism to allow for women to be respected and honoured then it must besaid as an ‘outer’ mechanism Islam advocates the institution of Hijab so thatwomen are judged for what they are truly worth and not merely objects formen’s gratification. As much as the media always makes an issue of andmaligns the treatment of women in Islam it is interesting to note that Islam isthe fastest growing religion in the world (Guiness book of records) and in thewest, in particular, most reverts are women who have no hesitation indonning the hijab. In fact, they do so with much pride. In Islam rape and all other forms of women abuse are reviled. In fact TheNoble Messenger of Allah (pbuh) discouraged and penalised adultery, fornication and rape.Wa’il ibn Hujr reports of an incident when a woman was raped. When he therapist was later positively identified the Messenger of Allah (peace be uponhim ) said “Stone him to death.” (Hadith-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud).May Almighty Allah Ta’ala grant us the wisdom, courage and moral strengthto uphold the rights and dignity of our women in society …ameen. We appreciate feedback on our articles. Abu Bakr (r.a.) feared but Rasullulah(pbuh) assured him. What is your opinion about those twowhen the third is Allah? The verse number 40, of Surah Toubahwas revealed commemorating the confidence of the Prophet(pbuh) in Allah and it was an immense display of Sabr.Thousands of years ago another Prophet (pbuh) wasrewarded for sabr, who stood on the bank of the sea with noway to escape and his enemies within his sight. It was here that Prophet Moosa (a.s.), when questioned by hismen who were afraid, showed immense patience and rejectedtheir fear saying “KALLA! My Lord is with me and He will guideme.” The word Kallah means "Impossible!" NOT POSSIBLEthat my enemy will catch me. Then he said "My Lord is withme.” Pharaoh had a huge well equipped army but Moosa hadAllah. With whom is Allah? The Qur'an says multiple times.Allah is with those who show Patience. The role of Indian policeAbout 17 years ago a book on communal riots and Indian policewas published in English, Hindi and Urdu and was well receivedin earnest circles. Its author was Vibhuti Narain Rai, a seniorofficer of Indian Police Services. After a long research of oneyear, he, in the light of ground realities and authenticinformation, brought to the notice of the nation theirresponsible behaviour of Indian police and its heinous role inriots. But in fact this was not a book rather a research documentwhich he had put before the police establishment for seriousconsideration so that police behaviour might be reformed in itslight. But the police system totally neglected it. Therefore, Mr.Rai had to get his precious and extraordinary research workIt’s not about police aloneThe question here is why after all is this character of the policeof Indian State? Teesta has confined her analysis to thisquestion. But the area of the question should be wider. Is thereall well with other departments of the State? Now this questiontakes us to the formation of independent India. The situationrelates to a mentality which was created before theindependence. It was this mentality that created the situationfor partition and all the responsibility of partition was thrownon the shoulders of Muslims. A part of the land with Muslimconcentration areas was separated in the name of Pakistan. Then a well-thought-out unwritten policy was adopted for theMuslims opting to remain in Independent India. According tothe declaration, though the Constitution of the land remainsdemocratic and secular, in which all citizens hold equal status, there is respect for all religious entities; however the groundreality is quite different. A particular mentality was granted fullindependence and all facilities to create hatred againstreligious entities and prepare lots of biased governmentworkers with the help of its private educational institutions, literature and organised groups. Today it is that mentalitywhich is at work. The question is not about policeestablishment only; it is about the behaviour of the State. Therefore, people like Teesta Setalvad and Vibhuti Naraian Raishould concentrate on this very basic question.published in book form. Renowned and active human rights [ S o u r c e : k h a b a r - O - N a z a r b y P a r w a a z R a h m a n i ,activist Teesta Setalvad has mentioned it in her recent analysis sehrozaDAWAT, translated by: Abu Yusuf](The Hindu, 20 February). The article was written in the context http://dawatonline.blogspot.com/of the recent riots in Dhule (Maharashtra) which was in factone-sided police action against Muslims. The scenes of thispolice barbarity were well captured in mobile cameras but themedia did not pay any importance to them. After publication of the interviewThereafter Teesta Setalvad questioned the entire policestructure and its system and said that she had done a longinterview with Vibhuti Narain Rai in 1995 which was publishedin about 30 publications. In the interview, Mr. Rai, in the light ofhis experiences and observations, further highlighted the roleof Indian police, according to which the rioters belonging to themajority community take the police as their protector andfriend during the riots. Teesta has written that after thepublication of Mr Rai’s book and her interview with him thegovernment and the police department did not take notice ofit; however responsible citizens and some senior securityofficers, including the founder and former head of BorderSecurity Force KF Rustomji and DIG Padma Rosha, turnedtowards it. Expressing concern over this situation, he hademphasised that the police department should take stock ofthe serious issue of communalism and casteism and takeimmediate corrective measures otherwise this situation ofcommunal conflict among the various sections of society willtake a serious turn. In her article, Teesta has also severelycriticised the priorities of TV channels.Bakhabar13

Understanding Moderationand Extremism, Part-2… Shakeel Ashraf Community of middle way:[Quran 2:143: And it is thus that We appointed you to be thecommunity of the middle way (ummat wasat) so that you might bewitnesses to all mankind and the Messenger might be a witness toyou.]This is the declaration of the leadership of the Muslim Community -a righteous and noble community, which must not go beyondproper limits, but follow the middle course and must deal outjustice evenly to the nations of the world as an impartial judge, andmust base all its relations with other nations on truth and justice. The meaning of "We have appointed you as ummat wasat so thatyou may be witnesses in regard to mankind and the Messengermay be a witness in regard to you" is: On the Judgement Day whenall mankind will be called to account together, the Messenger, asOur authorized representative, will give evidence in regard to youto prove that he had imparted to you, by word and by deed, without any reservation, the whole teaching of sound thought, righteous deed and justice given by Us. Then you, beingrepresentatives of the Messenger, in your turn, will be required togive evidence to prove that you had done your utmost to impart,by word and deed, to mankind whatever the Messenger hadimparted to you just as you had received it from the Messenger.Quranic classification of Muslims:[Quran 35:32: Then We made those people heirs of this Book, whom We chose (for this inheritance) from among Our servants;now someone of them is being unjust to his own self, and someonefollowing a middle course, and someone excelling in good deedsby Allah's leave. This is the supreme bounty.]According to the above verse, the Muslims, who have been sortedout from all mankind so that they may become heirs to the Book ofAllah, and convey its message to others after the Holy ProphetMuhammad (PBUH). Though this Book has been presented beforeall human beings, those who accepted it in the first instance werechosen for the honor to become heirs to a great Book like theQur'an and the trustees of the teaching and guidance imparted bya great Messenger like the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Allthese Muslims are not alike but are divided into three classes:(1) Those unjust to themselves: They are those who believesincerely and honestly that the Qur'an is the Book of Allah andMuhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace) the Messenger of Allah, but in practical life do not fully follow the Book of Allah and theSunnah of His Messenger. They are believers but sinful; culprits butnot rebellious; weak of faith but not hypocritical and unbelieving atheart. Therefore, although they are ¦unjust to themselves," theyhave been included among the chosen servants of God and amongthe heirs to the Book; otherwise, obviously the rebels and thehypocrites and the unbelieving people could not be so treated andhonored. This class of the believers have been mentioned first of Allbecause they are most numerous among the Muslims.(2) Those following the middle course: They are the people whofulfill the obligations of this inheritance to some extent but notfully. They are obedient as well as erring. They have not left theirself altogether free but try as best as they can to turn it to God'sobedience; however, at times they give it undue freedom andbecome involved in sin. Thus, their life becomes a combination ofboth the good and the evil actions. They are less numerous thanthe first group but more than the third; that is why they have beenmentioned second.(3) Those excelling in good deeds: They are the people of the firstrank among the heirs to the Book, and they are the ones who aredoing full justice to the inheritance. They are in the forefront infollowing and adhering to the Book and the Sunnah; in conveyingthe message of God to His servants, in offering the sacrifices for thesake of the true Faith, and in every pious and good work. They arcnot the ones who would commit a sin deliberately, but if theyhappened to commit a sin inadvertently, they would be filled withremorse as soon as they became conscious of it. They are lessnumerous than the people of the first two groups, and therefore, have been mentioned last, although they merit the first place inthe matter of doing justice to the heritage of the Book of Allah.Conservative, moderate and liberal:Recently in a discussion a participant described that Muslims aredivide in three categories namely conservatives, moderates andliberals and are sitting at three different poles of a triangle. Heconsidered the ‘moderates’ as true followers of Islam. Do we seeany similarity here with Quranic classification? Who isconservative? Is he unjust to himself, or he is a follower of middlecourse or he is the one excelling in good deeds? Similarly who ismoderate and who is liberal?Real moderate? In all our prayers five times a day while reciting surah fatiha we askAllah, “show us the right way, the way of those You have favored, who did not incur Your wrath, who are not astray”.‘Serat e Mustaqeem’ is not just a thin straight line on a drawing. It isa broad highway that can lead man to eternal success. Alas, conservatives try to narrow it to the size of their meanunderstanding and liberals think the verbal recitation of kalm-eshahdathas put them on an expressway of limitless width. Thereare others who think being complacent to their religion ismoderation and one who is devout and steadfast is conservative.Real moderate is not the one who is carried away with prevalenceand contemporariness of life but the one who after adopting theright way excels in good deeds with sincere intention to please hisLord. Limits prescribed by Allah are not to curtail material progressof mankind but it is to protect the mankind from its harms.[By the Time! Man is surely in loss, except those who believed anddid good works, and exhorted one another to Truth, and exhortedone another to patience. Surah Al Asr]Bakhabar14

Mr. Modi, you are not welcome:Wharton DebateRam PuniyaniThe withdrawal of invitation for Narendra Modi to speak atWharton Business School of Pennsylvania (March 2013) has beenlooked at in different ways by different commentators. Those whoare opposing the invitation withdrawal, point out that it is aviolation of the norms of freedom of speech. They say that Modi isan elected person in Indian system and his views on developmentof Gujarat under his leadership need to be heard by the peoplefrom business circles. Those opposing his invitation argue thatinviting him is like giving legitimacy to his total record. His role inGujarat violence, his failure to prevent the carnage and give justiceto the violence victims cannot be delinked from his so calleddevelopment. They point out that as far as debating and engagingwith Modi is concerned it cannot be achieved by inviting him as akey note speaker; this invitation already gives a high pedestal andrecognition to him. He should be interrogated, engaged anddebated with on different forums which give equal ground tothose wanting to debate with him. They also point that Gujarat’s development is a lopsided one, it isprojected more than what the reality is. In Gujarat the levels ofmalnutrition, child and maternal mortality is higher, Gujarat iscomparatively low on human growth index. The anti SC/STatrocity cases are one index of human rights record of the state. Intaking these cases of atrocities against SC/ST Gujarat is lowest onthe rung, with only 25% convictions. According to analysts thegrowth of Gujarat is more of propaganda as many other stateshave done much better during this period. The lowest in the scaleof development in Gujarat are minorities and SC/STs.norms which different wings of American state follow. There arevarious civic norms which are stringent and are aimed to sustainand promote democratic values. The Civil society has also beencampaigning to use this space, democratic-liberal one providedby these provisions of US system and try to stop the violation ofhuman rights and retrograde activities in different places. This is acontradictory situation. The state by and large in its foreign affairsis like a Big Brother, violating all the laws of international behaviorand laws and intimidating the smaller powers. There is no doubtabout its role in international affairs, as a super power; it isundermining the global democracy; it has mauled the emergingglobal democracy amongst nations, which was getting expressedthrough rising clout of United Nations, has been sabotaged by USin particular. As a state it has promoted dictators and has beenthick as thief with different dictators and autocrats. At another level, the civic society has come up steeped in civilitywith respect for the norms of modern democracies, to someextent. So we see the dichotomous processes going on here. It isdue to this pressure of prevailing norms and civil societycampaigns that US is denying Visa to Modi. Is this denial of Visa toModi an insult to our country? No way. It just shows us the mirror ofthe state of affairs in our country. Many a US bodies do keepmonitoring phenomenon like, Religious freedom in othercountries. Many of them keep making a list of terroristorganizations. All this monitoring is showing the diversities of oursocieties. In the same set up we are seeing two contradictoryphenomenons.Modi was invited by the students of Wharton to speak on Gujarat’ Coming back to Modi, Wharton student’s body has gone more bydevelopment. After this a few Professors circulated a petition the norms of civil society; has recognized that Modi may beasking for withdrawal of the invitation. Within just few hours the claiming and many others may be buying his story ofpetition got a massive response and was signed not only by the development, but the truth lies somewhere else. The petitionersprofessors, many others: alumni, the students, doctor’s lawyers opposing the Modi invite correctly point out that Human rightsand other stake holders also supported the petition. The large issues and development cannot be separated. As far as Modinumber of signatures and the logic which the petition put forward being a democratically elected person is concerned, the analystsclinched the issue and students, who are the ones to decide, can point out that his victory has been based on his politics ofwithdrew the invitation.polarization, not on the inclusive politics. Why did Allah call people ofMakkah as Mushrik?… By Siddi Rizwan Damad Praise be to the LORD of all that existsWhat is KUFR, KAFIR, SHIRK and MUSHRIK?KAAFIR is the one who denies and conceals the truth. Thebasic meaning of the word kufr in Arabic is concealment.SHIRK means devoting worship to anyone or anything otherthan ALLAH.MUSHRIK is the one who associates partner with ALLAH.Dictionary meaning of ASSOCIATE is “to join as a partner, friend, or companion”Dictionary meaning of DEVOTE (verb) “ to commit by asolemn act” or “dedicate an act of worship”In real life WHY DO WE ASSOCIATE WITH OTHER PEOPLE?Very simple for HELP .. to get HELP when required, cananybody think of anything else..what are the reasons forforming ASSOCIATIONS?Kufr may take the form of denying and rejecting, but themushrik may also believe in Allaah. This is the differencebetween the mushrik and the kaafir.Kufr is denial and concealment of the truth, such as one whodenies that prayer is obligatory, or that zakaah is obligatory,or that fasting Ramadaan is obligatory, or one who denies thatzina is haraam, or that drinking intoxicants is haraam, or thatdisobeying one’s parents is haraam, and so on.Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:“Between a man and shirk and kufr there stands his giving upprayer.” Narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh from Jaabir ibn‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him). And theProphet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:“The covenant that differentiates us from them is prayer;whoever gives it up is a kaafir.” Narrated by Imam Ahmad, AbuDawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasaa’i and Ibn Maajah with a saheehisnaad from Buraydah ibn al-Husayb (may Allaah be pleasedwith him). And Allaah is the Source of strength.WHY DID ALLAH CALL PEOPLE OF MAKKAH AS MUSHRIK?All muslims are aware that during Jahiliya (period beforeProphet hood), there were people who had names likeABDULLA, ABDUL MUTTALIB, and so on. It means that theywere aware of ONE ALLAH. Then what was the reason thatAllah called them MUSHRIK.We need to think friends, are we muslims also walking on thesame path of those mushriks, we also believe in ONE ALLAHas they used to believe. Lets see what Quran says, why didALLAH called them MUSKRIKS..Surah Al Isra,40: What! Has your Rabb preferred to give you sons andadopted angels as daughters for Himself? Certainly you areuttering a monstrous statement.42: Tell them: If there were other gods besides Him as themushrikin say, they would have certainly tried to find a way todethrone the Master of the Throne.57: Those to whom they pray, themselves seek the means ofaccess to their Rabb - trying as to who can be more near - theyhope for His Mercy and fear His punishment, for thepunishment of your Rabb is terrible indeed.Surah Yunus,31: Ask them (mushreek): "Who provides your sustenancefrom the heaven and from the earth? Who has control overhearing and sight? Who brings forth the living from the deadand the dead from the living? Who regulates the universe?"They will soon reply: "Allah." Say: "Why do you not then fearHim for you going against the truth?”Sura Al Ahqaf,5: And who could be more astray than the one who invokesthose deities besides Allah who cannot answer him till the Dayof Resurrection - which, in fact, are not even aware that theyare being invoked?Surah Al Imran,60: Say: "O people of the Book! Let us get together on what iscommon between us and you: that we shall worship none butAllah; that we shall not associate any partners with Him; thatwe shall not take from among ourselves any lords besideAllah." If they reject your invitation then tell them: "Bearwitness that we are Muslims (who have surrendered toAllah).”Here the Point to think is even Jews and Christians believed inONE ALLAH as mentioned in Quran but took ESSA (AS) andUZAIR (AS) as sons of ALLAH, meaning the ultimate power iswith ALLAH only, and his sons are their helpers.Associating with ALLAH doesn’t only mean that we WORSHIPIDOLS, what is the reason Mushrik needed partner withALLAH, simple reason for HELP. They used to ask the idols oftheir pious people, angels, messengers, etc to HELP them asthey were close to ALLAH.ALL THE PIOUS PEOPLE CAME CLOSER TO ALLAH COZ OFFOLLOWING QURAN AND SUNNAH. NOTHING ELSE.Please analyze are we DEVOTING OUR ACTS OF WORSHIP toothers than ALLAH, hence throwing ourselves to commitshirk.Think what are the ACTS OF WORSHIP…we devote…to piouspeople..REMEMBER THE ONLY DESTINATION AS SAID BY ALLAHFOR SHIRK IS JAHANNAM.And ALLAH knows the bestBakhabar16

Reference-News Item: How to buyMaulanas – Ask Nitish KumarAsrarul Haque, GurgaonRecently there was a news item published in some periodical abouthow the Nitish Government of Bihar ‘purchased’ the Maulanaas ofBihar by giving them lucrative posts and other benefits. The newsitem was circulated on large scale by some sympathizer of IndianMuslims. I am sure the news could shock any sensible Muslim.Reason is that we expect the Maulanaas to lead an ideal lifestyle tobe emulated by others. But we quite often find that the Maulanaasand Moulvis behave in irresponsible manner. It becomes moreimportant as non-Muslims look at them to evaluate Islam andMuslims.Madarsaas they are also taught Fiqhaa, Hadeeth and to someextent Urdu language. But with that kind of limited knowledge, they are unable to find any job except that they can enter somemosque and become Imaam or Muazzin. That is what most of themdo. As a side avenue they start giving tuitions in the locality andteach children and others how to recite Qur’an and if so desired, they make them learn reading and writing Urdu language as well. That is the reason that there is heavy competition among theMaulanaas and Moulvis to get into some mosque to becomeWe need to analyze the reasons behind such behavior of ourMaulanaas and Moulvis and then to introspect if we, as the Muslimsociety, are responsible to some extent for their behaviour. First letus start from where these Maulanas and Moulvis come from. Theyare produced in hordes year after year in different Madarsaasspread all over the country. Few of the Madarsaas are wellmanaged and receive adequate funds for their sustenance. Butmost of them have to fend for themselves. The Madarsaa peoplecollect funds in the form of Zakaat, Sadqaa, Fitraa, Charm-e-Qurbani (hides of sacrificed animals) etc. Still, there is deficiencyand inadequacy. Hence, Madarsaa people collect funds in differentmosques and by visiting households. But it becomes more likebegging. The persons who collect the funds are commonly called“Safeers” and many of them keep on moving round the year.Especially, during the months of Ramazaan, they enhance theiractivities as people donate more during Ramazaans. No doubt, theSafeers are compensated for the expenses and at times also getsome share out of the collected funds, but it becomes more or lesslike begging. Also, the children studying in the Madarsaas aregenerally sent out to collect funds by most of the Madarsaas.A related issue is that the children who enter the Madarsaas aremostly from poor families. The parents are unable to support themand provide them modern education. Hence, they send them to theMadarsaas, where most of their day to day needs are taken care of.Obviously, the children cannot insulate themselves from thefeeling of inferiority as compared to children who study in otherinstitutions and are supported by their families. There is one more tradition prevalent in our society. People askchildren from Madarsaas to come to their homes for lunch ordinner, if there is some happy occasion in the family like marriage,“Aqeeqaa”, birthday celebration etc. Also, when there is somedeath in the family, the family members invite children from theMadarsaas, to have food. It is considered a good deed and thethinking is that the dead soul gets “Sawaab”. There is no harm inthis practice. Inviting guests for food is a Sunnat. But the guestsmust be treated as guests, not as beggars. In our society, theMadarsaa children are treated more like beggars. They are made tosit on one side and served food separately. The family members andother guests do not join them. That way their feeling of inferiority isreinforced again and again. Now, let us look at the next phase. Once, the children pass out ofthe Madarsaas, they have no avenues for regular jobs. They have tofind some avenues to support themselves and their families. Theyhave no other expertise except to recite Qur’an. In case of betterImaam or Muazzin. A few join some Madarsaas to becometeachers. Those who are Huffaaz (those who can recite Qur’anwithout looking at the text) have another avenue to generate someincome. They lead the Tarawee prayers during Ramazaans indifferent mosques. At the end of the Tarawee, they are paid somemoney. It generally runs into few thousand rupees. That is why wecan find intense competition and even lobbying by Huffaaz to getplace in some mosque to lead the Tarawee prayers. Some of those who pass out from the Madarsaas, and are moreenterprising, start their own Madarsaas. Starting a Madarsaa isquite easy. No infrastructure is required. Generally, the Madarsaasare located in mosques and the infrastructures of the mosques areused for the Madarsaas. Also, the Madarsaas have an inherentadvantage. These institutions can utilize Zakaat, Sadqaa, Fitraa,Charm-e- Qurbani etc. Mosques cannot utilize these funds. As aresult, the Madarsaas are able to generate some income and therest is managed through donations. Also, on different occasionspeople invite the Madarsaa teachers and children for lunch, dinneretc. or people deliver ready food at the Madarsaas. That is how theMadarsaas thrive and their number is increasing with passingyears. But that is generating more competition among differentMadarsaas and they have to work more aggressively to sustainthemselves. There is one another aspect of the day to day life in Madarsaas.Generally, the teachers and managers have different kind of foodas compared to the children (students). Obviously, the food servedto the children is of inferior quality. That is one reason why thechildren are quite elated, if they are invited for lunch or dinner bysome household. There the food is generally better as compared towhat they get in the Madarsaas on regular basis. One last aspect related to the day to day life of the Maulanaas andBakhabar17

Reference-News Item: How to buMaulanas – Ask Nitish KumarMoulvis. No doubt they are called “Imaams” when they leadthe prayers in the mosques. But they are rarely respected astrue Imaams. Imaam literally means leader. Most peopleconsider them as inferiors. In most of the mosques they livein the mosques. There are no separate arrangements in themosques or outside for them. Also, in most of the mosquesthey do not get any regular salary. They have to raise fundsfor themselves by moving around in the locality from houseto house every month. At times people tell them to visitagain after few days on some pretext or the other. They haveno right to argue. They have to accept whatever is given (ornot given). In certain societies there is a tradition ofproviding them daily food by the households of the locality, especially if they live alone i.e. without family. But the food isgenerally not delivered to them at their places (mosques). The Imaams have to visit the households to eat or to fetchtheir food. Again, it is more like begging than being treatedas the leaders of the society. We do pray behind them. Butwe treat them more like beggars.I do not want to expand the issue further although there issufficient scope. My purpose is to attract the attention of theMuslim community towards the plight of the Maulanaas andMoulvis in our society. If under these circumstances they tryto behave irresponsibly, we too have to consider ourselvesresponsible for their behaviour and attitude. In Bihar and atsome other places if they can grab some posts, naturallythey will go to any extent to get those positions. Also, theywill remain obliged and indebted to the ‘systems’ which canprovide them such opportunities. Some Maulanaas andMoulvis also try to earn in some other way. For example, fewyears back a TV Channel did a sting operation with hiddencameras in UP. Illogical Fatwaas were obtained from some ofthe Maulanaas and Moulvis on payment basis. They werequite happy to give those Fatwaas, as shown by the TVchannel. The story was broadcast on national level again andagain. Obviously, the entire episode was highlyembarrassing for the entire Muslim community. But thequestion remains the same. No doubt our Maulanaas andMoulvis are responsible for what they do. But is thecommunity also not equally responsible for the irrationalbehaviour of the Maulanaas and Moulvis?I would like to close this matter with a real life incident. Afriend of mine, who is the CEO of a State Wakf Board, oncetold me that his driver told him about a person who was anImaam in a mosque appointed by the Wakf Board. That daythe Imaam was very happy and he distributed sweets as hecould get appointment as a peon in the same Wakf Board.Reason was obvious. The Imaams were paid only fewhundred rupees as salary by the Wakf Board, while the peonwas entitled to handsome salary as per Govt. rules. Also, thepeon was entitled to other benefits which the Imaams weredenied, even if they were appointed by the Wakf Board. Thatwas the case with an Imaam who was getting some salaryfrom the Wakf Board. How about the other Imaams who arenot paid anything on regular basis by the Wakf Boards or anyother organization? We need to consider their plight and findways to improve their conditions. Only then we can expectthat they will behave like real Maulanaas and Moulvis.*********Honesty in Job:An IslamicPerspectiveOffice time andeverything in office isAmanah and job is acontract.Hence be cautiousabout it.Don'ts- Receiving frequentand prolong personalcalls- Not choosing bestoption in favor ofcompany/client forpersonalconvenience- Wastingprints/tissue/water- Side job if prohibitedin contract letter- Using office time and - Doing overtimephone for makingwithout actual need orpersonal callsapproval- Frequent and long - Lying about currentpersonal mailssalary during interviewreading/replying/forwarding- Lying aboutexperience &- Taking personal prints qualification duringinterview- Using/bringing officestationary for personaluse- Favoring in selectionof employment- Doing personal work Dosduring office hour- Work sincerely using- Listening music during full potentialwork- Keep your promise- Frequent Tea/coffee about deliverablesbreak and chat/ gossipwith colleagues- Taking more thanallowed time for lunch- Do not be late in possiblereaching the office- Use idle time toimprove professionally- Take prints both sideof paper wheneverBakhabar18

7 Destructive Habits ofIncompetent Peopleby Michael Lee1 - They Think, Say, & DoNegative Things.Yup. They see problems in everyopportunity. They complain thatthe sun is too hot. They cursed therain for ruining their plans for theday. They blame the wind forruining their hair. They think thateveryone is against them. Theysee the problems but never thesolutions. Every little bit ofdifficulty is exaggerated to thepoint of tragedy. They regardfailures as catastrophes. Theybecome discouraged easilyinstead of learning from their mistakes. They never seem tomove forward because they're always afraid to come out oftheir comfort zones.2 - They Act Before They Think. They move based on instinst or impulse. If they see somethingthey like, they buy at once without any second thought. Thenthey see something better. They regret & curse for not able totake advantage of the bargain. Then they spend & spend againuntil nothing's left. They don't think about the future. Whatthey're after is the pleasure they will experience at present. They don't think about the consequenses. Those who engage inunsafe sex, criminality, and the like are included in this group.3 - They Talk Much More Than They ListenThey want to be the star of the show. So they always engage intalks that would make them heroes, even to the point of lying.Oftentimes they are not aware that what they're saying is notsensible anymore. When other people advise them, they closetheir ears because they're too proud to admit their mistakes. Intheir mind they're always correct. They reject suggestionsbecause that will make them feel inferior.4 - They Give Up EasilySuccessful people treat failures as stepping stones to success.Incompetent ones call it quits upon recognizing the first signs offailure. At first, they may be excited to start an endeavor. Butthen they lose interest fairly quickly, especially when theyencounter errors. Then they go & search for a new one. Samestory & same results. Incompetent people don't have thepersistence to go on and fulfill their dreams.5 - They Try to Bring Others Down To Their LevelIncompetent people envy other successful individuals. Insteadof working hard to be like them, these incompetent onesspread rumors and try every dirty trick to bring them down. They could've asked these successful ones nicely. But no,they're too proud. They don't want to ask advise. Moreover, they're too negative toaccomplish anything.6 - They Waste TheirTimeThey don't know what to donext. They may just becontented on eating, gettingdrunk, watching TV, orworse, staring at the blankwall with no thoughtswhatsoever to improve theirlives. It's perfectly fine toenjoy once in a while. Buttime should be managedefficiently in order to succeed. There should be a proper balancebetween work & pleasure.7 - They Take the Easy Way OutIf there are two roads to choose from, incompetent peoplewould choose the wider road with less rewards than thenarrower road with much better rewards at the end. They don'twant any suffering or hardship. They want a good life. What these people don't know is that what you reap is what yousow. Efforts & action will not go unnoticed. If only they wouldbe willing to sacrifice a little, they would be much better off.Successful people made it through trials & error. They nevergive up. They are willing to do everything necessary to achievewhat they aspire for in life. With Best Regards,V Chacko JacobPosted 23rd July 2012 by Govind Sharmaہماری طرح اندهيری شبوں ميں جلنے لگوہمارا خواب تمہيں بهی اگر دکهائی دےWhat Is Forgiveness ?It Is The Wonderful SmellThat A Flower Gives……When it’s Being Crushed!Bakhabar19

Wastage of Food. We willbe made AccountableM. A. HaqueSometime back a BA Member had circulated a video clip which relatedto some Gulf country, obviously a Muslim nation. The rulers of the Stateand few more people were in the desert to have a party. If I remembercorrectly, the total number of persons present there were not morethan fifty. But huge quantity of food was prepared in large sized vesselsby the workers. People consumed only a small portion and the restwere thrown on the desert sand. After meal different types of fruitswere served, again in large quantity. Only part was consumed. The restwas thrown on desert sand. The video depicted that everyone was veryhappy about the whole episode. Probably, they were happy that Allahhas given them enough wealth that they can throw so much food onthe desert sand. In the Arab and other ‘rich’ Muslim countries it is quitecommon to waste food and other materials.the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Afghanistan whom I knewwell and the Head of the “Tableegh” in Afghanistan. I requested themto take up the issue and propagate the concept of conservation amongthe masses, especially the rich section of the country. I am not sure ifthey could do something in that regard. In India too we find that huge quantities of food are wasted, especiallyduring celebrations like marriage, aqeeqa, birthday celebration etc.Even in our daily life we are not careful enough and we allow wastage offood. We need to remember that vary large numbers of people indifferent countries, including our own, remain without adequate foodand nutrition on account of non-availability and poverty. We need toconsider their plight and conserve the food. Our effort should be toI remember one incidence from Iraq. We were there during 1980s. TheIraq-Iran war was going on. Basrah, the only sea port was notfunctioning. As a result, there used to be shortage of different items, including food materials on regular basis. Articles were imported by theGovt. through Jordan, Turkey and Kuwait etc. Occasionally, people hadto struggle to purchase their requirements. We were privileged as wewere with the University. We used to get our requirements onpreferential basis. But we were quite pained to see that people in theneighbourhood and also otherwise used to waste food on day to daybasis. They used to cook much more than their requirements. Moreimportant was that every household had refrigerator/s and also deepfreezer. But they never retained the leftover food materials for laterconsumption. They used the refrigerator/s and also deep freezer onlyfor storing meat, poultry, raw vegetables etc. Whatever food was leftafter meals, the same was thrown out day after day. We used to feelbad. Once I told to one of my neighbours about the wastage. I wasshocked when the lady told me that they were not bothered about thewastages. They had enough money to buy anything. More shockingwas her next sentence. She told that we were concerned about thewastage as we were from a poor country i.e. India. She was quitesarcastic. Obviously, I had no option but to keep silent.24pass on what is extra to those who are not privileged like us.We consider ourselves Muslims. There are clear instructions from Allahin this regard.Allah directs that we should not eat up our wealth in vanity i.e. to showour importance or in pride. O ye who believe! Thecountry is totally dependent on foreign aid for survival. The populationis sharply divided in two categories. Impending Threat by Corporate Sector, MiddleClass and Communalism to Our Political SystemV.K. Tripathi, IIT DelhiEver since UPA II assumed power, corporate sector and middle classesare on the offensive against the government. The media owned by theformer is aggressively pursuing this design, and the ideologicalorganization of these classes, the RSS (with all its wings) is waging aviscous countrywide communal campaign. It is not only the Congressand its allies that are under threat, the entire political system is indanger.Corruption, Blackmoney and LokpalMovementsThe industrialists, businessmen and corporate sector already havelegal rights to misappropriate the labor surplus of the farmers andworkers and to squeeze the national resources to amass sky highprofit. Over and above this, they have the tools of hoarding, blackmarketing and bribery to reinforce it further. Two years ago, in order tobend the government to its knees, they raised the bogey of corruption, black money and Jan Lokpal bill. Media over night lifted Anna Hazare, and later Ramdev and Kejriwal, to the sky. However, no finger wasraised on these classes, the real source of these evils. The assertiveelements of institutes like IIT (who had carried Ramshila poojan ontheir premises in 1989 and in whose veins runs deep rooted hatred forGandhi), the shopkeepers, builders, officers and other sectarianelements turned behind them. In the 2000 billion rupees 2G spectrumscam, D.Raja and others were already under prosecution on thecharge of taking bribe of Rs. 2 billion, i.e., 0.1% of the value of scam. This issue wasr a i s e d w i t hgreat vigor andthe face of thee n t i r eg o v e r n m e n twas blackenedbut no fingerwas raised ont h o s e w h oc o r n e r e d99.9% profit. In July2012, violence took place between the Bodos and Muslims inBodoland (comprising Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baxa and Udalguri districtsof Assam). One hundred people were killed and 4 lakhs renderedrefugees. Eighty percent of those killed and displaced were Muslims. Itwas a grave tragedy as Bodos are poor and Muslims are even poorer. Both are Indian citizens, our own people. However, Lal Krishna Advani, with a view to propagate hatred, said that this was not the conflictbetween Hindus and Muslims but between Indians and Bangladeshis.Soon Togadia reached there and spread the venom, “Do not let theseBangladeshis (the displaced victims) return back.” VHP, RSS, BJP andother organizations indulged in massive country wide propagandathat there were crores of Bangladeshis in the country. Assam in its 3.2crore population has 31% (1 crore) Muslims of which doubtful cases, according to the recent white paper issued by the state government, are less than 1% of Muslim population. West Bengal has around 2.5crore Muslims. All these people, and the Bangla speaking Muslimlaborers from these states who have gone to different parts of thecountry due to sheer poverty (and survive by selling their labor forBakhabar25M a s s i v eCommunal Drivecheap) are Bangladeshis in their eyes. This is a blatant attack on thecitizenship and dignity of the countrymen, on the roots of the nation. But TV channels ignored to unearth this massive drive. In fact sectionsof print media became a party to this drive. The impact of this drive andsimilar other moves on the middle classes has been so deep that theystarted projecting Narendra Modi as the prospective prime minister.Modi has two distinctions: one, he taught tough lessons to Muslims, byletting the genocide go on uninterrupted for three days, and two, hehas reduced the status of MLAs and Ministers to zero. Corporatesector directly gets its work done by him and the entire secretariat isready to serve them. The Mighty Thrust of CapitalThe thrust of capital (market forces) on the political system is mostsevere. In 1991, the crisis of payment, the thrust of domestic andinternational capital and the breaking up of the Soviet Union led to theera of globalization and liberalization. Some progressiveorganizations opposed it but their base was limited. Computerrevolution and outsourcing of work broadened the size of the middleclasses. Internet and mobile phone led to information andcommunication revolution. The tsunami of market driven economyturned polity in its favor. The Congress might have begun the neweconomic policy but in a way all political parties towed the same line.Economic activities spread, industrial production grew, Metro, flyovers, multilane highways, and the numbers of cars, motorbikesgrew phenomenally. The spread of computer in railways, banks, tehsiland all areas of production, marketing and administration and theoutsourcing of work from developed countries led to rapid rise in thenumber of engineering colleges. In early nineties the intake in B.Techwas below 1.5 lakh, in 2011 it reached close to 8 lakh (mostly in the formof private engineering colleges). The seats in management collegesalso grew manifold. With this glamour of development also grew the inequalityrapidly. The government withdrew from education and health andthese became very expensive. The worst fall out was on land andhousing sector which came under the control of builders, corporatesector and industrialists. 40 to 50% people in big cities are seekingshelter in slums or slum like localities. In the countryside, low holdingfarmers are losing their lands to neo rich from developed areas andcorporate sector. The contractor system in services has greatlyincreased the gap between the salaries of contractual and regularemployees. Workers in private sector companies and in theunorganized sector have no job security and no pension plans. 75% ofthe people are outside the main stream of education anddevelopment. The pressure of market forces on the political system isso intense that in the name of development it is busy being primarily afacilitator of these classes. The political organizations that have emerged through thestruggles on the issues of the masses – Congress, Communists,Socialist, Bahujan Samaj, and regional parties are still in touch with themasses. Their heritage has some influence on their policies. They mayhave traders, industrialists and criminal minded people with them buthave a larger number of those who understand the problems of thepeople and stand with them against the oppression by the police andadministration. However, the roots of all these parties are shaking.Revitalizing the Political SystemThe main task of polity and democratic institutions is to contain the illeffects of market driven economy, to save villages from degeneration,to save the farmers from exploitation by the traders, to check themisappropriation of lands by builders and corporate sector, to providetechnical education up to the level of self reliance for everyone, to

Impending Threat by Corporate Sector, MiddleClass and Communalism to Our Political Systemimplement minimum wages and provide job security and pension planfor workers of unorganized sector, to restrain media from being anaggressive tool of the elite and orient it towards objectivity andpeople. Only people centric polity, through the awakening of themasses, can put a check on the dictates of the capital. The politicalparties and social activists who want to save the political system fromthe onslaught of the capital and keep it alive, must ponder on thefollowing issues.Devolution of Power among all the Members ofDemocratic InstitutionsDemocratic institutions, from Gram Panchayat to Parliament, havelarge number of members. Gram Panchayat, for instance, has 11members but the power lies solely with the Pradhan (Sarpanch). Theentire money that the village gets from the government (to the tune ofone crore rupees per year for MNREGA, housing, roads etc.) is spentthrough the pradhan and government officials. This gives scope formanipulation and fierce political rivalries. It will be better served if thepower is divested in all the 11 members who are a betterrepresentative of different communities in the village. Following themodel of Gram Swaraj that the Gandhians in Sri Lanka are developing, one may form five or seven committees in the Panchayat, e.g.,education committee (looking after schooling in the village as well aswhen children go to cities), senior citizens committee, housing andconstruction committee, MNREGA committee, health committeeetc., each one with separate budget and full power. The membersmust be paid salaries too for their involvement. In Assemblies, Chief Minister should not be all powerful likeGujarat where MLAs and ministers have no voice. An MLA, with widecontacts in his/ her constituency must raise peoples’ issues in theAssembly. He/ she must have responsibility in the execution ofschemes at the local and state level. Same should be the role of MPs.Saving the Land from Corporate and Builders’ControlA mighty task is to stop the growing control of businessmen, buildersand affluent elite on lands. Every political party must explore ways andhave a policy on it. The appropriation of lands in villages by urban elitemust also stop. For this the consent of 75% people of the village forland acquisition has been propagated. However, personal sale of landto outside elite out of personal financial compulsions is also a matter ofserious concern and must be looked into.Survival of the VillagesMNREGA and Loan waiver programs have been helpful. But thevillage will not gain strength unless capital formation takes placethere. MNREGA should be linked to that. Land, forests and otherresources of the village must be saved through the uplift ofconsciousness, authority of the Panchayat and appropriatelegislation. Ill effects of mandi (food grain markets) are countered onlymarginally by the procurement prices announced by the states as theprocurement by the government is too much delayed. Procurementprices themselves are too low. The farmers’ cooperatives must havedirect access to markets.Pension Scheme for the Unorganized SectorThe workers in the unorganized sector are severely afflicted by lowwages, job insecurity, health hazards and unavailability of pensionplans. For the ones engaged with contractors, pension can be given byplacing a surcharge on the contractors. For instance tens of thousandsof workers in Lalitpur district of UP are engaged in granite and duststone work. The government gains crores of rupees per year throughleasing the quarries. These workers begin at the age of 18. By the timethey are 40-45, their bones become stiff or they develop lung relatedproblems and are not able to do hard work. They do not work for a fixedcontractor. For them job cards may be issued. Each year a card willhave the record of how many days the person has worked with whichcontractors, signed by the contractors and counter signed bygovernment official. Once the person has accumulated 4000 man dayson the card he/ she must be entitled for the pension to be paid by theforest/ mining department. For this sum these departments may levy asurcharge on the contractors at the time of giving them the lease.Monitoring Hoarding, Corruption and Misuse ofPowerEvery political party should form monitoring units that would overseehoarding, black marketing and corruption by traders and misuse ofpower by the officers.Orienting Media towards Objectivity and PeopleCNN owner once remarked that news is a bigger weapon than a bomb.I did not realize the value of this statement then, but looking at themedia role in recent years I am convinced and alarmed. Serious effortsmust be put to restrain media from sensationalizing news andoffensiveness. They should not act as instruments of corporateinterests, rather be objective and people-centric. Gandhi’s HindSwaraj would be a good guide line for journalists.Countering Sectarian Propaganda and LiberatingShrinesSectarianism is counter to democracy. It is not only a menace tominorities, but to the majority too. In its garb, criminals, musclemenand feudal lords enhance their stature and authority, sectarian andvested interests control religious shrines, businessmen gainprominence, peoples’ unity is broken and exploitation accentuates.Hatred also cripples the atmbal of the people. It must be resistedresolutely at all levels. The ongoing propaganda against Banglaspeaking Muslim countrymen must be countered. A campaign mustrun to liberate religious shrines of sectarian influence and stop theirmisuse as centers of capitalist interests and sectarianism. The Facade of Modi’s Development PlanckCorporate and media are aggressively creating a Modi cult. Modi istheir hero because he can shut his opponents and meek masses, bethey minorities or Nirma displaced farmers or other sections. Aftermaking him iron man they are projecting him as a man ofdevelopment. Where ever business classes live the GDP growth of thatarea is always higher than elsewhere. For the last one hundred years,Gujarat has been having higher share of business and industry than therest of India, hence the higher GDP growth rate. In last ten years itsGDP growth rate has increased very marginally, from 7.2% to 7.8%.During the same period, Bihar GDP growth rate has increased from2.5% to 7%. Maharashtra is a much bigger state than Gujarat but itsGDP growth rate of 7.2% in not far from that of Gujarat. Under theCongress CMs Madhav Singh Solanki and Amar Singh Chaudhry,Gujarat GDP growth rate was higher than today. A much bettermeasure of growth is the per capita GDP growth of the lower 75% ofthe people. On that scale as well as in human development indexGujarat legs behind several states. It is no credit for a person ofnational dimension to derive pleasure in concentrating industry andbusiness in certain states or employing one lakh child labor fromDungarpur (Rajasthan) to Banaskantha (Gujarat) every year for bitcotton farming.Bakhabar26

We willbe made AccountableChildren of Adam! Take your adornment (by wearing yourclean clothes), while praying (and doing Tawaf) and eatand drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He(Allah) likes not those who waste by extravagance.[Qur’an: 7/31]Some people may argue (due to ignorance or theirfoolhardiness) that it is their wealth and they have theright to spend it as they like. But Allah makes it clear thatwe have no right to fritter away our wealth. We mustspend the same with wisdom. And give to the kinsmen his due and to Miskin (needy)and to the wayfarer. But spend not wastefully (yourwealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. [Qur’an: 17/26]Obviously, we will be answerable to Allah for all ourdeeds. When we waste the resources provided by Him,He will take due account of the same on the Day ofJudgment. We will certainly suffer in the next life for thewrongs done in our present life. But we may suffer in thisworld as well. There have been innumerable examples inhistory of those who transgressed and suffered in thisworld. Examples of Pharaoh, Qarun are well known. Weshould be very careful.************

Culprits of Blast Prosecuted,Culprits of Riot PromotedBy Syed Zubair Ahmad,Victims of Mumbai riot 1993:have been sent to jail, Modi’s cabinet member Maya Kodnani hasgot historic conviction. But justice is still a distant dream forThough very late yet welcoming Supreme Court verdict in the Mumbai riots victims in Congress ruled Maharashtra. The riot victims ask: When the was masterminded by politicians, police and administration butgovernment rightly pursued, prosecuted and ultimately it’s called ‘communal riots’. Killing by bombs is ‘terrorism’ butpunished the bombers, why it let free the rioters, rather killing by trishul and bullets of police is called ‘violence’.promoted many indicted police officers and politicians? Is killingwith bomb more painful than killing with trishul and bullets? The double standard of the government and system shows thatthe Muslims are the second class citizens of this country. TheThe apex court has confirmed the death penalty for Yakub shameful fact shows that our democracy has become a shamMemon, one of the accused of the serial blasts. Besidescommuting the death sentence of 10 other convicts, the courtawarded life terms to 22 others accused in the case under variousprovisions of TADA, IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act andExplosives Act, while sentencing several others to varying jailterms ranging from one year to 10 years. The Muslims and everyone must welcome and respect theverdict of the apex court on the Mumbai serial blasts of March1993 in which nearly 257 people were killed,713 injured andproperties worth Rs 27 crore were damaged. But what about theMumbai riots victims of December 1992 and January 1993 inwhich more than 900 Muslims were killed and properties worthmore than Rs 10000 crore were damaged by Hindu rioters andpolice? Not only have the riot victims failed to get the justice sofar, but shamefully a whole lot of police officers who wereindicted by Sri Krishna Commission kept on getting promotionsin the last 20 years.Undoubtedly the Mumbai serial blasts were the ‘reaction’ to theanti-Muslim riots that happened in a planned way soon after thedemolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. The culprits of‘reaction’ were pursued to even foreign locations, brought tobook and now ultimately have been punished but the culprits of‘action’ who are roaming freely in Mumbai localities were nottouched, they are still at large. The police officers who not only failed to perform their duty butkilled innocents even in mosques have been promoted and givenbravery awards. The politicians who have been indicted by theSri Krishna Commission now carry larger image. Even 20 yearsafter the riots and 15 years after the submission of Sri KrishnaCommission Report, the government has not taken a single steptowards the implementation of the report. Sri KrishnaCommission report which indicted politicians like cabinetminister Sharad Pawar, Maharashtra minister Chagan Bhujbaland senior Congress leader Narayan Rane etc has been throwninto dustbin.
