Our Sisterhood has accepted that challengeand a committee composed of Barbara Birenbaum,Carol Gendel and Phyllis Mehlman has been working formany months to make contact with an equal number ofwomen from the San Diego Muslim community. This past spring, on May 25, 2008, six of us cametogether for the first time to introduce ourselves anddiscuss our hopes for improving communication andunderstanding between our communities. Using thebook “The Faith Club” as a model, we will meet on aregular basis to learn more about each other as peopleand about our faiths. It is only by building bridges ofcommunication that we will break down the barriers ofmistrust and misunderstanding that nurture so manyof the problems between ourcommunities. In the future, we plan to hold events that will bringtogether our Sisterhood members and Muslim womenfrom the community to learn about and celebrate ourcommon heritage. We challenge you to join us in this remarkablejourney. Please read the book “The Faith Club” byRanya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner. And when the invitation comes for an interfaith forumcomes, be prepared to join us in opening minds andhearts to our Muslim cousins.Happenings 4 September 2008
