Star ScholarshipScholarshipsAt Cottey, we realize we’re not the only project theSisterhood supports through its philanthropy. However,there is an opportunity to combine your efforts and supportnot one, but two, projects at once.The P.E.O. Sisterhood began the STAR Scholarship in2009. Since then, according to the STAR Chair at P.E.O.International, 762 scholarships have been awarded. Of those762 young women only 11 have attended Cottey, that’s only1.4 percent of STAR recipients.“The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is a highly competitive onetime$2,500 scholarship recognizing graduating high schoolsenior women who demonstrate outstanding leadership,academic achievement, extracurricular activities, andcommunity service and who plan to pursue full or part-timepost-secondary education in the United States or Canadabeginning in the fall following their high school graduation”(P.E.O. International).“Cottey College, an independent liberal arts college, educateswomen to be contributing members of a global societythrough a challenging curriculum and a dynamic campusexperience. In our diverse and supportive environment,women develop their potential for personal and professionallives of intellectual engagement and thoughtful action aslearners, leaders, and citizens” (Cottey College).We realize that not all STAR nominees are going to be theright fit for Cottey. However, we encourage you to let thestudent decide for herself. Present her with details about ourleadership programs, encourage her to visit campus, maybeeven visit campus with her! We know that chapters are veryproud of their STAR nominees and their accomplishments.We would like for those students to be introduced to Cotteyfrom the very beginning of the application stage. A studentwho is nominated for STAR is a student we would loveto have at Cottey.
