FALL 2011 SEMESTER<strong>Course</strong> <strong>Syllabus</strong>Attendance:InclementWeather:Regular attendance is important to help in learning the material covered in CS<strong>101</strong>.You are responsible for all material covered and will lose credit for any in-classassignments you miss.To reward regular attendance, up to 30 bonus points will be offered this semesterto on-campus students. Using a web-based attendance system athttp://cs<strong>101</strong>.wvu.edu/attendance/, students will sign-in to record their attendanceat all class meetings. Students who do not sign-in or who fail to notify theirinstructor of any errors or problems will not receive attendance credit. If there isno record of your attendance, you will not receive credit.You must be present to have your attendance recorded. No credit will be awardedfor students missing classes, even if it is for an excused absence (this includesmedical reasons, military commitments, Days of Special Concern, WVU events orother factors beyond the student’s control). For the purposes of extra credit, wewill begin counting during the second week of class (Fall and Spring semesters) oron the second day (Summer sessions). While you must sign-in on exam days, wedo not award attendance credit for attending class during an exam.Fraudulent use of the attendance system is considered a violation of the CS<strong>101</strong>Academic Integrity Policy and will result in action as indicated in that section of thesyllabus. If you believe your attendance login was incorrectly flagged for fraud,you must notify your instructor immediately or you will be subject to penalties.Examples of fraud include, but are not limited to:• Leaving class early or arriving late and signing-in for attendance withoutpermission from your instructor.• Signing-in from a location other than your classroom during the scheduledclass time.• Signing-in another student or having someone else sign you in.Attendance bonus credit will be awarded according to the below schedule.Attendance fraud violations will make you ineligible for this bonus.On-Campus SectionsSections 19 and 21Monday/Wednesday SectionsTuesday/Thursday SectionsBonus Points (up to 30 points total)1.3 points per day (24 lecture days)1.25 points per day (25 lecture days)1.2 points per day (26 lecture days)Attendance bonus points are only given for lecture days. Bonus credit is notawarded for exam days. It is possible to earn full credit while still missing onelecture day, but you cannot earn more than 30 points even if you attend all days.The CS<strong>101</strong> staff reserves the right to modify or terminate the attendance bonus atany time and for any reason. We also reserve the right to refuse to award theattendance bonus to any student for any reason we deem appropriate.On rare occasions, CS<strong>101</strong> classes or Open Lab may be cancelled due to inclementweather.
