Motivation• The RFID <strong>and</strong> position<strong>in</strong>g system technologies are the key enablers <strong>for</strong>logistics supply cha<strong>in</strong> visibility <strong>and</strong> track<strong>in</strong>g– <strong>Track</strong><strong>in</strong>g of the cargo which may be at risk of miss<strong>in</strong>g, off-load<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> delay,especially if the cargo is critical or perishable– Trac<strong>in</strong>g delivery status <strong>for</strong> customers has been one of the ma<strong>in</strong> hassles <strong>for</strong> logisticcompanies. Literature Review <strong>and</strong> Analysis• RFID has been be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>vestigated by both academic <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustries [MIT ledAutoID Lab, Wal-Mart, DODS, Tibco, IBM, VeriSign, OAT, Intel, Sun, Oracle]– Inventory management– <strong>Supply</strong> cha<strong>in</strong> visibility– Product Authentication• GPS has wide adoption– locat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> track<strong>in</strong>g vehicles, items <strong>and</strong> even people• Integration of RFID <strong>and</strong> GPS <strong>for</strong> cargo track <strong>and</strong> trace <strong>in</strong> supply cha<strong>in</strong> isattract<strong>in</strong>g more attention– Study has been done to show the importance on real <strong>in</strong>tegration of e-tag, RFID,GPS, GRPS <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternet• Only a study– A system “Intelligent Store- INTELSHOP” is reported <strong>based</strong> on RFID <strong>and</strong> GPS tofacilitate search<strong>in</strong>g the products on the store’s shelf• Its application is not a supply cha<strong>in</strong> scenario.– A healthcare system is reported to track patient us<strong>in</strong>g RFID/GPS• but this research ma<strong>in</strong>ly addresses security <strong>and</strong> privacy issues when access<strong>in</strong>g medical data.Copyright © 2009 S<strong>in</strong>gapore Institute ofManufactur<strong>in</strong>g Technology All rights reserved
