The MalacologicalResearch Team from Burapha University, Thailand collected some scientific samples ofamber snails from Eastern Thailand. Their morphology, shell, jaw, radula, andreproductive anatomy were examined relative to those of Succinea putris (Linnaeus).The results revealed that the amber snails were morphologically dissimilar to S. putris.Those snail samples shares the same morphological characteristics in terms of shell,jaw, radula and genitalic characters as in genus Indosuccinea. This is the first anatomicalstudy of Succineidae and new record of genus Indosuccinea in Thailand.ประเทศไทยเปนพื้นที่หนึ่งที่มีความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพสูง ไมวาจะเปน สัตว พืชหรือจุลินทรียตาง ๆ เชนเดียวกันกับหอยทากบก (land snails) ที่มีความหลากหลายไมนอยหนากลุมอื่น สมศักดิ์ (2543) รายงานวา ประเทศไทยมีหอยทากบกมากถึง 600 ชนิด ในจำนวนนี้ มีหอยทากอำพัน (amber snails) รวมอยูดวย ซึ่งเปนกลุมหอยทากบกมีปอดโบราณจัดอยูในวงศ Succineidae พบแพรกระจายทั่วโลก มักพบตามตนไม หรือใตใบไมใกลกับแหลงน้ำ หรือบริเวณที่มีความชื้น คอนขางสูง ทั่วโลกพบทั้งสิ้น 2 วงศยอย 12 สกุล และ 42 ชนิด (Patterson,1971) และมีรายงาน ที่กลาวถึงหอยทากบกวงศนี้ในประเทศไทยเพียง 1 สกุล 2 ชนิดคือSuccinea tenella และ S. cochinchinensis (Panha, 1996) เทานั้นลักษณะทั่วไปของหอยทากบกวงศ Succineidae คือ เปลือกรูปทรงกรวย วงเปลือก(spire) ต่ำเมื่อเทียบกับวงเปลือกสุดทาย (body whorl) ที่มีขนาดใหญ ชองเปดปาก (aperture)กวาง ริมขอบปากเรียบ เปลือกบางใส เปราะ แตกหักงาย ผิวเปลือกเรียบสีน้ำตาลออนหรือสีอำพัน อันเปนที่มาของชื่อ หอยอำพัน (amber snail) หอยทากบกในวงศนี้มีความแปรผันของลักษณะทางสัณฐานวิทยาของเปลือกคอนขางมาก ทำใหการจัดจำแนกในทางอนุกรมวิธานไมสามารถใชเปลือกเพียงอยางเดียวจำตองใชลักษณะอื่น ๆ เขารวมในการจัดจำแนก เชน ขอบปาก (jaw) แรดูลา (radula) และกายวิภาคของระบบสืบพันธุ เปนตน50
