The new lettucebag <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> going to make life a lot easier forc<strong>on</strong>sumers and save <strong>the</strong>m m<strong>on</strong>ey.’The new packet may look innocuous,but thanks to input from s<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>tercompanies East Rand Plastics whichprovided <strong>the</strong> special<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ed film, andKnilam, <strong>the</strong>re’s some serious technologyinvolved. Knilam <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> a South Africanleader in modified atmospherepackaging (MAP), technology thatallows for <strong>the</strong> extended preservati<strong>on</strong>of fresh produce without <strong>the</strong> additi<strong>on</strong>of artificial gases or preservatives. Theinside of <strong>the</strong> package incorporatesanti-m<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ting properties that improve<strong>the</strong> appearance of <strong>the</strong> lettuce, and<strong>the</strong>re’s a built-in re-sealable strip.
