4. Allied Trades<br />
If combined as an integral part of a<br />
vehicle maintenance facility, allied<br />
trades can share support core functions.<br />
See Figure 2-D for the functional area<br />
relationships of the allied trades area.<br />
a. Allied Trades Supervisor’s Office -<br />
Provide the shop supervisor with visibility<br />
<strong>and</strong> access to the shop.<br />
b. Welding - Specific area for arc <strong>and</strong><br />
acetylene welding is required.<br />
c. Upholstery - Area for repair of<br />
upholstery <strong>and</strong> storage of materials.<br />
d. Paint Preparation - For s<strong>and</strong>ing,<br />
taping, <strong>and</strong> clean-up prior to placing<br />
the vehicle in a paint booth.<br />
e. Paint Booth - Area within the<br />
facility should be large enough to<br />
house the paint booth.<br />
f. Repair Bays - For vehicle body repairs.<br />
g. Jacks/Floor Tools - Locate<br />
adjacent to service bays with space<br />
for jack st<strong>and</strong>s, lifts, hoists, etc.<br />
5. Special Purpose <strong>Vehicle</strong><br />
<strong>Maintenance</strong><br />
a. Service Bays - Provide bays for the<br />
repair <strong>and</strong> maintenance of specialized<br />
vehicles such as forklifts, aircraft cargo<br />
loaders, front-end loaders, aircraft<br />
tugs, heavy construction equipment,<br />
<strong>and</strong> snow removal equipment. Also<br />
provide maintenance bays for fire<br />

fighting vehicles when maintenance<br />
cannot be performed elsewhere<br />
on base.<br />
b. Special Purpose <strong>Vehicle</strong><br />
<strong>Maintenance</strong> Supervisor’s Office -<br />
Locate within easy access of the<br />
service bays.<br />

adjacent to service bays with space<br />

6. Refueling <strong>Maintenance</strong><br />

This facility should be remotely located<br />
because of the potential fire hazard.<br />
