ENROLLMENT STATUSEnrollment status for the fall and spring semesters is determined by registered total semestercredits:Full-time student12 or more credits per semester3/4 time 9-11 credits per semester1/2 time 6-8 credits per semesterLess than 1/2 time1-5 credits per semesterA first-year student, by definition, is one who has completed 30 or fewer semestercredit hours. A second-year student is one who has completed 31 or moresemester credit hours. For the summer period, enrollment status for Title IV financial aid and for all other purposesis as follows:FINANCIAL AIDFull-time 12 credits 6 creditsALL OTHER PURPOSES3⁄4 time 9-11 credits 4-5 credits1⁄2 time 6-8 credits 3 creditsLess than1⁄2 time1-5 credits 1-2 credits18QUALITY POINTSQuality points are numerical values indicating the quality of student performance in creditcourses: A=4; B=3; C=2; D=1; F/FW=0. The quality points earned for a course equal thequality point value times the number of credits. A student who earns an “A” in a four creditcourse earns 16 quality points: the quality point value (4) x the number of credits (4) = thetotal quality points (16).GRADE POINT AVERAGESThe grade point average (GPA) is a numerical indication of the student’s performance in allcourses in which quality points can be earned. The GPA is calculated by dividing the numberof quality points earned by the number of credits earned. The term and cumulative GPA,calculated to three decimal places, will appear on the online grade report as well as on thetranscript. Under extenuating circumstances a student may petition the Chief AcademicOfficer to exclude coursework from the cumulative GPA calculation. Courses excludedfrom the cumulative GPA calculation as a result of a petition will not be counted as earnedand cannot be used to satisfy program requirements for degree-seeking students. Gradesfor excluded courses will remain in the student’s term GPA, and the courses will continueto appear on the transcript, however the cumulative GPA will reflect the exclusion of thecoursework.
