The name “Cesme”meaning fountain, refers tothe many springs found in the area duringthe 18th <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> 19th centuries. Çeşme isa town <strong>on</strong> the west coast of Turkey <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><strong>on</strong>e of the districts of İzmir Province. Itis a prominent center of internati<strong>on</strong>altourism in Turkey <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> is famous for itsclubs, beaches <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> fish restaurants.The nearby depending townships ofIlıca <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Alaçatı are also very notablein this respect. Nearby GerenceGulf is a pristine inlet northeast of theCesme <str<strong>on</strong>g>Peninsula</str<strong>on</strong>g> which can be reachedby boat or car.
