Safety Limit Pressure ControlThe Safety Limit operates essentially the same as the pressure control described previouslyexcept this limit is equipped with a reset button and does not have a differential. The purposeof the Safety Limit is to shut down the burner if the operating pressure control becomesinoperable and steam pressure continues to climb. The burner will not start until the situationis corrected and the reset button is pushed. The high limit of the Safety limit must beset above the operating Pressuretrol setting.Adjust the main scale set point about 20 PSI higher than the operating pressure control byturning the main scale adjusting screw on top of the case until the main scale setting indicatoris at the desired pressure. There are a number of pressure controls that may be used interchangeably by Columbiaincluding various Honeywell Pressuretrols and/or Danfoss pressure controls. For additionalinformation on either the Honeywell L404A or L404C, see Honeywell Form 60-2150-9in the appendix. Other information may be found following this manual.Safety ValveSafety valves shall be piped so that any discharge cannot cause injury to people or damageto property. The discharge piping must be supported so that the weight of the pipingis not transmitted to the safety valve body. The weight supported by the valve outlet shouldnot exceed that of a drip pan elbow. Installations requiring long discharge piping shouldnot be connected directly to the safety valve. Refer to Drawing PL-049 in the Appendix. In order to achieve the topmost performance and maximum safety valve life, maintain aproper operating gap between the set pressure of the safety valve and the maximum operatingpressure of the boiler. The minimum recommended operating gap for this valve is 10%, but at no time less than7 PSI. Under no circumstances should this gap be less than 7 PSI or seat leakage canoccur. Failure to maintain this operating gap can result in an accumulation of deposits onthe seating surface that may impede proper operation of the safety valve. If the valve discharges on its own, contact a qualified service technician to determine thecause. This may be an indication of equipment or system malfunction.Gauge Glass ProtectorThe gauge glass protector is provided to guard against personnel injury and componentdamage in the event of a breakage of the sight glass. The gauge glass protector must beproperly installed prior to operation of the boiler.FM-148 COLUMBIA BOILER COMPANY, REV 6-06- 22 -
