RETURN SYSTEMS (Optional)Pump OperationThe boiler feedwater pump is controlled by probes sensing the water level in the combinationwater column, level control, and low water cut off. Operation of the specific control isdescribed in the component section of this manual. Whenever a pump is used to feedwater to a boiler, it is recommended that a motor starter be used with the pump. The motorstarter will take the electrical load off the mercury switch in the level control.Detailed instructions for the maintenance of the boiler feedwater pump are provided withthe Return System.Make-<strong>up</strong> Water ControlThe field water s<strong>up</strong>ply enters the boiler feedwater tank through the make-<strong>up</strong> valve assembly,The water level in this tank is maintained at a level near the center of the tank by afloat operated valve. This make-<strong>up</strong> valve is built into the boiler feedwater return tank.The maximum allowable pressure to the make-<strong>up</strong> valve is 50 PSI.
