FORECAST POTATO BASED PRODUCTSEmlichheim, Germany – Mai 04, 2012During coming years raw material supply in general is expectedto become more volatile.Rising prices for oil stimulate use of corn and wheat as rawmaterials for bioethanol production.According to research from the International Center for TropicalAgriculture (CIAT), severe outbreaks of new, invasive peststriggered by rising temperatures could threaten SoutheastAsia's multi-billion dollar cassava industry, as well as thelivelihoods of the hundreds of thousands of small farmers thatrely on the crop for income.In Europe cost prices for potato starch will increase with about100 €/t due to rising costs of raw materials related to subsidycuts. Volumes of starch potatoes in 2012 might be till 20 %lower, while on the long term cultivated potato areas faceannual reductions at about 4 %.
