2006 Roseraie Internationale du Parc de la Tête d'Or...Lyon, France<br />

The park was created in 1857, and the first international rose trials were<br />

held here in 1931. Today the rose garden contains 400 cultivars of roses and<br />

35,000 plants<br />

2006 Centenary Rose Garden ...........................................Tamil Nadu, India<br />

The Centenary Rose Garden is on the slopes of the Elk Hills and covers an<br />

area of 4 hectares, divided over five curving terraces. The present<br />

collections contains 20,000 plants of 2800 cultivars.<br />

The garden has a unique "tropical mountain climate" for rose growing, with<br />

rainfall distributed throughout the year and not much change in temperature.<br />

This provides an unbelievably long flowering season, and thousands of<br />

visi<strong>to</strong>rs throng there throughout the year, even in winter.<br />

2006 Bara Koen (The Rose Park).....................................Fukuyama City, Japan<br />

Fukuyama is known as the "City of Roses" and Bara Koen is a favorite<br />

resort of its citizens. The park, begun in 1956, was the starting point of this<br />

"City of Roses" and has played a leading role in its development. It features<br />

a well-balanced arrangement of climbing roses, Hybrid Teas, Floribundas<br />

and "International Corners" consisting of beds each displaying roses raised<br />

in a particular country.<br />

2006 Utsubo Koen: Bara (Utsubo Park - The Rose Garden) Osaka, Japan<br />

The Rose Garden in Utsubo Park is the most outstanding rose garden in<br />

Osaka. Begun in 1952 as a post-war reconstruction project, the garden was<br />

extensively renovated in 2003. The renewed Rose Garden was expanded <strong>to</strong><br />

9,000 square metres and contains 3,200 roses in 151 varieties. These range<br />

from the wild roses of Japanese and Oriental origin <strong>to</strong> present-day roses.<br />

Colorful, labeled roses are displayed in a natural and harmonious<br />

arrangement under the theme "natural and casual". The Rose Garden<br />

functions as an urban oasis for the citizens of Osaka.<br />

2006 Westerbroekpark......................................................Den Haag, Netherlands<br />

In addition <strong>to</strong> being a beautiful example of an English landscaped style of<br />

park, Westerbroekpark is renowned for its international rose trials. New<br />

varieties of roses not yet in commerce are submitted from around the world<br />

for testing for a period of two years. In addition, varieties already in<br />

commerce are planted in the rosary - each in a separate plot- where they are<br />

observed for three years. The city of The Hague awards certificates <strong>to</strong> the<br />

outstanding roses in each category, and these certificate winners compete<br />

for the highest award, The Golden Rose of The Hague.<br />

Roger's Rose Garden is part of the Hamil<strong>to</strong>n Gardens, whose theme is "the<br />
