<strong>Student</strong> <strong>H<strong>and</strong>book</strong>Page 10<strong>Briercrest</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>Continuing <strong>and</strong> Distance EducationThe student fails to submit journals on two consecutive due dates or three times in a2-year period.The student fails to meet regularly with his/her mentor. Regularly can be defined asmeeting together once a month for 3-4 hours, meeting together twice a month for 1.5-2 hours, or meeting together weekly for a shorter period of time (an hour).The student is not completing the minimum required course work (i.e., 2 courses peryear).The student is not actively involved in her/his local church.4.3.6.2 Procedure for Moving <strong>Student</strong>s to Inactive FileIf a program student has failed to meet any of the above requirements, the following stepswill be taken.One missed journal – the student will be contacted to determine why the journal hasnot been received. If the student cannot be contacted or does not respond to messages,emails, letters, etc., a note will be put in his/her file.Second missed journal – the student will be contacted. The student will be advisedshe/he is being moved to inactive status. This means the student will no longer beconsidered a program student <strong>and</strong> will not qualify for the accompanying privileges(discounts on courses, merch<strong>and</strong>ise, etc.).A student who is not completing two courses a year will be contacted, as well. Thismay result in being moved into a program the student can complete within therequired seven-year time frame. This is an option that is open to all program students,if they find they cannot complete a degree in seven years.A student’s file will remain in the inactive file for up to two years, at which point itwill be permanently removed. A student who wishes to re-enter the program after twoyears have elapsed must reapply.4.3.7 Inactive Status - Voluntary WithdrawalThere are times when circumstances in a student’s life change suddenly <strong>and</strong> unexpectedly,requiring the student to withdraw from studies. CDE program students have the option ofvoluntary withdrawal from the program <strong>and</strong> placement on an inactive list for up to two years.During that time, they may reinstate with minimum requirements. The Director of DistanceEducation <strong>and</strong> the Program <strong>Student</strong> Coordinator will review these cases on an individualbasis.4.3.8 Moving from Inactive to Active <strong>Student</strong> StatusA student who has moved to inactive status may return to active status if certain criteria aremet.
