Brick Fundraising ProgramWhat’s Newfor 20<strong>11</strong>-2012Starting in April of 20<strong>11</strong>, the <strong>YFPE</strong>, Inc. has created a wayfor the community to support the foundation by purchasinga brick to be placed in a designated area at each of ourfive high schools. Students, families, alumni, sport teamsand community members are encouraged to purchasebricks to celebrate their history and great memories at one of our five high schools in the <strong>York</strong> <strong>County</strong> School Division. This year’sbrick sale will continue throughout the year with deadlines for orders in December 20<strong>11</strong> and July 2012.Joseph H. Levi Memorial ScholarshipOur new Joseph H. Levi Memorial Scholarship came about after the beginning of the <strong>2010</strong>-20<strong>11</strong> schoolyear. Joseph H. Levi was a respected and well-liked teacher and coach at Tabb High School for 23 yearsuntil retiring in <strong>2010</strong>. Just months later, Joe was taken suddenly by cancer. A native of Philadelphia,Joe was a graduate of Villanova University. He relocated to this area in 1976. In addition to teaching,Joe was a longtime coach of tennis and wrestling. Teaching was Joe Levi’s “stage.” He loved using jokesand puns to entertain his students and made learning government and history fun for an audience ofteens who typically found the topic boring. Often referred to by students as “my favorite teacher,” Joeis remembered by family, friends, colleagues and former students for his humor as well as engagingpolitical discussions. One former student said of him, “He gave you a sense that you could confide inhim.” At the request of Mr. Levi’s family, this annual memorial scholarship will provide assistance to aselected senior student athlete from Tabb High School each year. Congratulations to Tabb High School’sMegan E. Woodward, first recipient of the Joseph H. Levi Memorial Scholarship in the spring of 20<strong>11</strong>!“Fund for Excellence” EndowmentsThe <strong>York</strong> Foundation for Public Education, Inc. will continue to pursue potential donors to assist in buildinglasting endowments to secure the ongoing and exciting mission of the <strong>YFPE</strong>, Inc.
