PROCEDURE FOR OPERATION ON SUSPECT<br />
BOWLING ACTIONS<br />
1. UMPIRES<br />
1.1 Suspect Bowling Actions<br />
• A bowler whom the umpire[s] consider to have a suspect action is not to be called.<br />
• Immediately the umpire[s] consider a bowling action to be suspect the captain of the fielding team should be advised and<br />
informed of the procedure that is to be undertaken.<br />
• The umpire[s] are to note the deliveries of concern, either all or specific.<br />
• At the next interval the umpire[s] shall notify by telephone the <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> Umpiring Manager of their concerns.<br />

• At the conclusion of the day’s play the umpire[s] will complete the appropriate form and lodge it with <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong><br />
Umpiring Manager within 72 hours (3 days) of the close of play.<br />
1.2 Breaches of Law 24.2 - No Ball the Arm<br />
• Blatant breaches of Law 24.2 No Ball The Arm are to be called.<br />
• At the next interval the umpire[s] shall notify by telephone the <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> Umpiring Manager of their concerns.<br />
• At the conclusion of the day’s play the umpire[s] will complete the appropriate form and lodge it with <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong><br />
Umpiring Manager within 72 hours (3 days) of the close of play.<br />
2. QUEENSLAND CRICKET UMPIRING MANAGER ROLE<br />
• Immediately notification is received from the umpire[s], the <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> Umpiring Manager will contact the<br />
respective Secretary (grade, club, association, affiliate etc) to advise and inform them of the procedure that is to be<br />
undertaken.<br />
• The <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> Umpiring Manager will immediately contact the other members of the Suspect Actions Group,<br />
advising that a report has been made.<br />
• This panel will arrange for relevant video footage showing the bowling action from all available angles.<br />
3. SUSPECT ACTIONS <strong>GR</strong>OUP (SAG)<br />
<strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> has established an advisory group specifically to deal with suspect actions. The SAG comprises Terry Oliver,<br />
David Orchard, Brody Grogan, Wayne Nivenand Vic Williams with the ability to co-opt as required.<br />
LEVEL 1:<br />
In any match, if there is a doubt, the first mention* is to be made by the umpire(s) to <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> Umpiring Manager on a note,<br />
separate from the Match Report, naming the bowler and expressing what the concerns are.<br />
Upon receipt, we make contact with the Club Administration Officer/Secretary and Club coach and ask the Club to investigate the matter and<br />
take remedial action if necessary.<br />
The SAG recommends that all suspect bowling actions in junior cricket are dealt with as a level 1 offence, unless the<br />
action is considered to be dangerous.<br />
• Display sensitivity to all participants (player, parent and teammates).<br />
• Generally the players action is unintentionally suspect.<br />
• Maintain clear communication will all participants on process.<br />
If a coach is experiencing difficulties then they should contact their respective Regional <strong>Cricket</strong> Manager to obtain<br />
further information in relation to the technique correction process.<br />
