Board of DirectorsDatuk Azzat KamaludinChairman/Non-Executive, Non-Independent DirectorDatuk Azzat Kamaludin was appointed tothe Board of Dialog Axiata as Chairman andDirector on 21st July 2008.He is an independent non-executive Director ofAxiata Group Berhad. Datuk Azzat Kamaludinis a lawyer by profession and is a partner of thelaw firm of Azzat & Izzat, Malaysia.Datuk Azzat Kamaludin graduated from theUniversity of Cambridge, United Kingdom,with degrees in Law and in International Law,and was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law of theMiddle Temple, London in 1970. Prior to beingadmitted as an advocate and solicitor of theHigh Court of Malaya in 1979, he served as anadministrative and diplomatic officer with theMinistry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia from 1970to 1979.Datuk Azzat Kamaludin is presently a Directorof several public listed and private limitedcompanies in Malaysia. He has also served as amember of the Securities Commission, Malaysiafrom 1993 to 1999.Dr. Hans WijayasuriyaGroup Chief Executive/Non-Independent, Executive DirectorDr. Hans Wijayasuriya was appointed to the Boardof Dialog Axiata on 19th January 2001.Dr. Wijayasuriya joined the Company in 1994 asa member of the founding management team ofthe Company, and has functioned in the capacityof the Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata, since1997. He counts over 17 years experience intechnology-related business management. He alsoserves on the boards of a number of internationalsubsidiaries of the Axiata Group.A Fellow of the Institute of EngineeringTechnology of the UK (IET),Dr. Wijayasuriya is a Chartered ProfessionalEngineer and also a member of the Institution ofElectrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), USA.Dr. Wijayasuriya graduated with a degree inElectrical and Electronic Engineering fromthe University of Cambridge, UK in 1989. Hesubsequently read for and was awarded a PhD inDigital Mobile Communications at the University ofBristol, UK. Dr. Wijayasuriya also holds a Master’sin Business Administration from the University ofWarwick, UK.Dr. Wijayasuriya is a past Chairman of GSM AsiaPacific – the regional interest group of the GSMAssociation representing 49 Asia Pacific membercountries, and has earned the distinction of beingincluded in the GSM 100 Role of Honour for hiscontribution to GSM in the Asia Pacific Region.Dr. Wijayasuriya was a recipient of the CIMA-Janashakthi Business Leader of the Year awardin its inaugural year of presentation in 2003, andof the coveted ‘Sri Lankan of the Year’ award in2008 presented by Sri Lanka’s premier businessjournal, the LMD.14Dialog Axiata PLCAnnual Report 2010 |
Board of Directors (Contd.)Mr. Moksevi PrelisIndependent, Non-Executive DirectorMr. Mohamed MuhsinIndependent, Non-Executive DirectorMr. Prelis was appointed to the Board of DialogAxiata on 15th September 2004.He has 27 years experience in the bankingsector out of which 21 years was in thecapacity of CEO/Director of the DFCC Bankand the Nations Trust Bank. Prior to this hehas worked for 16 years as an engineer anda manager in the automobile manufacturingand steel industries. He has held the posts ofChairman – Ceylon Electricity Board, Chairman– National Institute of Business Management,Chairman – Association of DevelopmentFinance Institutions of Asia & Pacific,headquartered in Manila and Chairman –St. John’s National Association of Sri Lanka.He has served as a Director on the boardsof 20 companies and five state institutions.He is currently the Chairman of the CapitalTrust Securities Group and a Director ofSinwa Holdings Ltd. and the Colombo StockExchange Ltd.He holds a Bachelor’s degree with Honours inMechanical Engineering from the Universityof Ceylon, and a Master’s degree in IndustrialEngineering and Management from PurdueUniversity, USA, a Postgraduate Certificatein Industrial Administration from AstonUniversity, Birmingham and has completed theInternational Senior Management Programmeof the Harvard Business School, USA. Heis a Chartered Engineer of UK, a Fellow ofthe Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, a(Hon) Member of the Institute of PersonnelManagement and a (Hon) Fellow of the Instituteof Bankers, Sri Lanka.Mr. Muhsin was appointed to the Board ofDialog Axiata on 14th June 2006.Mr. Muhsin’s experience includes workingas a Strategic Management Consultant andDirector on international corporate andfoundation boards. Prior to his retirementas the Vice President and Chief InformationOfficer at the World Bank, Mr. Muhsin wasresponsible for aligning information technologywith the organisation’s business strategy.
