The workshop “PEOPLE<br />
EXCELLENCE” was a very interactive<br />
workshop in which the presenters<br />
entered into a dialogue with the<br />
delegates to iron out certain generally<br />
believed misconceptions and then<br />
guided them towards mutually agreed<br />
conclusions<br />
arrived at by<br />
mutual<br />
discussions<br />
within groups<br />
formed during<br />
the workshop.<br />
<strong>In</strong> the<br />
workshop<br />
“OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE” the<br />
importance <strong>of</strong> operational excellence<br />
and it’s meaning was highlighted<br />
through<br />
examples<br />
within COM<br />
MN and how<br />
these could<br />
be applied<br />
to other<br />
businesses by other business units.<br />
The importance <strong>of</strong> top+ was highlighted<br />
to achieve targets <strong>of</strong> operational<br />
excellence. <strong>In</strong> the recommendations it<br />
was suggested that more emphasis be<br />
given to top+ and use <strong>of</strong> this important<br />
tool must become a way <strong>of</strong> life in<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong>.<br />
Workshops were graded by participants<br />
in following order:<br />
First position to “People Excellence”<br />
Second Position to “Portfolio Driven Performance”<br />
Third Position to “Operational Excellence”<br />
Most active participants prize for Mr.Irfan Ahmad <strong>of</strong> PTD Services, Mr.Mansoor<br />
Iqbal <strong>of</strong> CQMS and Mr. Shaukat Kamal <strong>of</strong> A&D. The prizes were based on<br />
basis <strong>of</strong> recommendations from workshop presenters.<br />

The annual dinner and awards ceremony<br />
was held at the imposing Darbar Hall <strong>of</strong><br />
Karachi Sheraton. The Vice Chancellor<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Karachi Dr.Pirzada Qasim<br />
Mr.Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui presents a memento to<br />

was the chief guest on the occasion. The<br />
company had also invited ex employees<br />
like Mr.Dawood Ansari, Mr.Kamil Reza<br />
Siddiqui, Mr. Mohammad Haleem and<br />
Mr.Parvez Alam which allowed old friends<br />
to renew acquaintances<br />
and prove that the<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> family ties live<br />
long after its employees<br />
have left the company.<br />
The evening started with<br />
recitation from the Holy<br />
Quran and was followed<br />
by the address <strong>of</strong><br />
welcome <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Managing Director<br />
Mr.Sohail Wajahat<br />
Siddiqui who in his<br />
address <strong>of</strong> welcome said<br />
that the presence <strong>of</strong> the<br />
vice chancellor was a<br />
great motivating factor<br />
for the students receiving<br />
the awards. He said that<br />
encouragement <strong>of</strong> excellence was part<br />
<strong>of</strong> the philosophy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Siemens</strong> worldwide.<br />
He pointed out that one <strong>of</strong> the gold medal<br />
recipients had already been employed<br />
in <strong>Siemens</strong> which shows that the doors<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong> are open for merit.<br />
The Chief Guest Vice chancellor<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Karachi Dr.Pirzada Qasim<br />
praised <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong> for motivating<br />
Engineering students from across the<br />
country. The vice chancellor stressed the<br />
need for a knowledge based society<br />
which he said was imperative for the<br />
progress <strong>of</strong> the country. He praised<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> for holding this award ceremony<br />
for students which he said was very<br />
motivating for the students. The vice<br />
chancellor said his own experience with<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> was very satisfying as they<br />
were involved with the fiber optic project<br />
at the University <strong>of</strong> Karachi which was<br />
the largest such project in any academic<br />
institution and they did a fine job.<br />

directors <strong>of</strong> the company.<br />

away by the chief guest.
