auggiealumni newsAuggies Give Back: Studentphilanthropy at <strong>Augsburg</strong>A popular trend in colleges across the nationis also taking <strong>Augsburg</strong> by storm—current students are giving back to<strong>Augsburg</strong> while they are still students.The Alumni and Constituent Relationsstudent group, the <strong>Augsburg</strong> Stewards,are at the <strong>for</strong>efront of <strong>Augsburg</strong>’s wave.Under the direction of Amanda Storm, associate alumni director,the Stewards host a variety of events and activities to engage andeducate students on how their experience at <strong>Augsburg</strong> is funded.Philanthropy Week, the first week in March, is a week-longawareness event that gives the student body an opportunity to participatein a variety of philanthropic activities that include votingwhere their donations go and posting how they give back to theircommunity. There is a scavenger hunt on campus <strong>for</strong> a particulardonor, with clues given about that donor and why they give back.These activities help students understand that while their tuitionfunds a major part of their education, the generosity of<strong>Augsburg</strong> alumni and friends also plays a significant role in theirexperience.New <strong>this</strong> year, students will have an opportunity to directly giveback to fellow students through the “Feed the Pig” class gift challenge.All students receive a piggy bank and are encouraged to“feed the pig” their loose change throughout the semester. Themoney raised will benefit current <strong>Augsburg</strong> students through ascholarship awarded at the Scholarship Brunch in April. Think itcan’t get any better? The class with the highest rate of participationwill win a class party at the President Pribbenow’s home.Alumni artists—call <strong>for</strong> submissionsauggiesGIVE BACK<strong>Augsburg</strong> Alumni Juried Show 2011The <strong>Augsburg</strong> art galleries are pleased to announce an excitingopportunity <strong>for</strong> alumni to show their artwork in a juried exhibitionfeatured in both the Gage Family Art Gallery and ChristensenCenter Art Gallery opening in early August 2011.Each artist may submit up to three images. The submissiondeadline is June 24, 2011; notifications of acceptance will besent out July 12.
