<strong>Sanitation</strong> <strong>21</strong>Annex One:Summary Terms of Reference for the Task ForceThe <strong>Sanitation</strong> <strong>21</strong> task force will consist of a Coregroup supported by an Advisory group of seniorexperts in the field. The Core Group’s objective isto contribute to thinking about sanitation in urbanareas in a way which will address the challengesof increasing sustained access to services of anacceptable standard. The Task Force will achieveits objectives in the following ways:• Identify and convene a cross-section of leadingthinkers from different backgrounds working onall aspects of sanitation (hardware, software,<strong>planning</strong>, etc);• Involve task force members in development ofkey outputs, namely:> Classification and review of a range ofsanitation technology options (including interalia technical, social, financial, institutional,etc, issues), focusing primarily on existingtechnologies, with a review of innovativeoptions at the 2006 <strong>IWA</strong> World Congress;> Identification of a <strong>framework</strong> for evaluation ofthese technology options;> Review of selected case studies where suchevaluation criteria can be applied;> Identification of a longer-term process as tohow the issue of sanitation should be handledin the future;• Publish, communicate and disseminate theresults from task force activities to policy makersand practitioners alike.– 34 –
