CRAIG W. HAGINAvery familiar scripture forthose who follow this ministryis Mark 11:23: “Forverily I say unto you, Thatwhosoever shall say unto this mountain, Bethou removed, and be thou cast into the sea;and shall not doubt in his heart, but shallbelieve that those things which he saithshall come to pass; he shall have whatsoeverhe saith.”We see from this verse that whenwe say something and never doubt thatwhat we say will come to pass, we willhave what we say. When I look at thisWhat may be impossible for usis possible with God.scripture, I see the simple mathematicalequation x + y = z, or “saying plus believingequals having.”xIn looking at Mark 11:23 as an equationof faith, the first part of the formulais “saying.”It’s important to watch what we say.One reason our faith doesn’t work whenwe go through difficult times is that wespeak the wrong words. For example,I have heard people say, “I never haveenough money to pay my bills.”Although it may be true that theyare experiencing lack in their finances,if they continually talk about their lack, they are actually tying the hands of Godand preventing Him from moving ontheir behalf. And instead of rising abovetheir circumstances, they remain boundby them.Others have said, “I didn’t finish mycollege education, so I will never beable to get a good job,” or “I’m alwayssick and tired,” or “I’m always lonelyand depressed.”We must realize that we form ourworld with our words. So if we alwaystalk like this, we shouldn’t be surprisedthat we have what we say. That’s why I always make a point ofsaying things such as, “I never worry, because I have the peace of God thatpasses all understanding” (Phil. 4:7),or “The joy of the Lord is my strength”(Neh. 8:10). When I talk like this, I amWe form our worldwith our words.putting myself on a pathway of victory. And no matter what I encounter, I knowthat I’m victorious in Christ.yThe second part of faith’s equation is“believing.” A lot of times people becomedisheartened when they are believingGod for something but don’t receive itright away. Because they didn’t get it assoon as they thought they should have, they begin questioning God. And assoon as they begin to doubt, they havestepped out of the arena of faith.Let’s look at something that happenedin Jesus’ life. It’s an example of atime when He spoke and it didn’t look asif anything had changed. In Mark chapter11, Jesus was on His way to Jerusalemwith His disciples. He saw a fig treein the distance and thought there werefigs on the tree. But when He discoveredthat the tree didn’t have any fruit on it,He cursed it (v. 14).Jesus and His disciples continuedinto Jerusalem, where Jesus cleansedthe temple. Then they left and spent thenight outside the city. The next morningas they were returning to Jerusalem theyrhema.org 9
