In fact, observing the figure 33, it’spossible to notice how, the United States Presidential Elections of the 2008, hasbeen conduced also through social networks and how, the same methods has beenadopted, even if in lesser extent, for the recent Midterm Elections.84
Evidence on the use of social networks, as effective means for the politics, may beobtained observing the graphs of figure 35, representing the number of “views”and “comments” received by videos posted immediately after the last U.S.Primary Elections (November, 2010).Figure 35 - Variation of views and comments about the "barackobamadotcom" profile, observed duringthe data collectionBoth temporal diagrams, suffer a notable increase in proximity of the subsequentdays of the Primary, suggesting that, the videos uploaded concerning the PrimaryElections results have been, not only observed by many users than normal, butalso object of numerous comments, indicating that a social network can be a goodinstrument to try to reduce distances between voters and elected, acceptingsuggestions and constructive criticisms.Always observing graphs obtained through the application, by crowling someItalian political figures, it has been noted that, even though with less enphasis, theuse of social networks to diffuse political opinions through Internet, in order toreceive also some criticism and suggestions by voters, is spreading also in Italy,through the creations of profiles belonging to politicians or political parties.85
