Every June, The Canadian <strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Art</strong>s <strong>Foundation</strong> presents the annual artsPeak <strong>Art</strong>s Festival.<br />

Incorporating over 100 presenting artists, 60 plus volunteers, 50 plus presentations and 36<br />

venues, artsPeak provides Canmore residents and visitors with a wide array of opportunities to<br />

explore, celebrate and be inspired by the arts. <strong>Art</strong>ists are providing festival-goers with a weekend<br />

of song, film, street performance and numerous opportunities to explore the visual arts. In<br />

addition, there are two series of workshops to provide novice artists with the opportunity to<br />

The Atrium at the Canmore Civic Centre is available to rent<br />

for registrations, open houses and other select special<br />

events. For certain functions, the interior street at the Civic<br />

Centre can also be utilized. Please note that a facility<br />

monitor is applied to the applicable rental fee. Available 5pm<br />

– 10 pm weekdays, and 8am - 10pm weekends.<br />

Historic community centre built in 1910 is home to "The<br />

Pine Tree Players", "artsPeak" and the "Live on 7th" concert<br />

series. Available for all types of community events - dances,<br />

concerts, theatrical presentations, banquets, weddings,<br />

receptions and meetings. Up to 150 capacity.<br />

A year-round recreation destination. The Day Lodge<br />

features a café, fireplace, changing rooms, showers, day<br />

The Lady MacDonald Community Hall at the Canmore Rec<br />

wedding receptions, open houses, registrations, meetings,<br />

training sessions, workshops, birthday parties and other<br />

social functions. A commercial quality kitchen is available to<br />

rent in conjunction with the Community Hall.<br />

The Ha Ling Conference Room at the Recreation Centre is<br />

available to rent for a variety of purposes including<br />

meetings, training sessions, workshops, birthday parties<br />

and other social functions. Available 7am – 11 pm, 7 days a<br />

week.<br />

event is a celebration of our children. It’s an opportunity to<br />

set the kids free and unleash your inner child for a day of<br />

fun, laughter and merriment. Storytellers, theatre, comedy,<br />

magic, puppets, and crafts await discovery at the Canmore<br />

Join us for three days of folk/roots, blues and world beat at<br />

Alberta’s longest running folk festival! The alcohol-free<br />

event includes a global artisan village and food vendor<br />

area, a kid’s area, a free Friday night street dance, a free<br />

Saturday children’s concert and the Heritage Day Monday<br />

The biggest Celtic culture experience in Western Canada<br />

takes place Canmore on Sunday, Labour Day weekend.<br />

Competitions by highland dancers, pipers, drummers,<br />

heavy sportsmen, sheep dog demos; Celtic vendors and<br />

Clan tents. Beer Garden and Evening Ceilidh feature nonstop<br />

entertainment in heated tent. Tickets, food and drink<br />

(haggis! fish and chips!) available on-site. Rain or shine.<br />

The annual celebration of the spirit and presence of the<br />

golden eagle and its autumn migration over Canmore, held<br />

in October. A weekend of Eagle Celebrations including<br />

guided hikes, bird walks, interpretive displays, theatrical<br />

performances and guest speakers. Spotting scopes are set<br />

up at the High School, and Colin Weir brings his Alberta<br />

Birds of Prey Exhibit. Among the live birds on display will be<br />

A free film festival featuring a variety of films focused on<br />

social and environmental justice themes, followed by<br />

discussions led by community leaders, the festival provides<br />

opportunities for education, reflection and action.<br />

An exhibition by the youth of Canmore. Kid’s <strong>Art</strong> is not a<br />

competition, rather a celebration of the creative efforts of<br />

young members of our community. <strong>Art</strong>work created by<br />

youth aged 4- 12. Runs every winter -- watch for<br />

submission details.<br />

The Canmore coal mines closed on Friday, July 13 th , 1979,<br />

and in celebration and recognition of the miners and their<br />

families, Miners’ Day occurs on the closest Saturday to July<br />

13 each year. A parade starts at noon at the NWMP<br />

Barracks, followed by a free barbecue lunch in front of the<br />

museum.<br />

Ring in the New Year with friends and family - warm<br />

yourself by the fire, enjoy music and entertainment, lace<br />

up your skates and take a turn around the ice… there´ll be<br />

hot dogs and hot chocolate… and fireworks! At 9:30 p.m.<br />

a series of loud star bursts will draw all eyes to the north<br />

end of the pond. Midnight Fireworks at Millennium Park.<br />

Every June, at the Fairmont Banff Springs, the Banff World<br />

Television/nextMEDIA Festival honours the best in<br />

television with its Rockie Awards. International program<br />

buyers, network executives, distribution companies and<br />

independent producers attend the four day event to seek<br />

business and creative opportunities.<br />

Presented by the Canadian <strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Art</strong>s <strong>Foundation</strong>,<br />

this annual band festival takes place in mid-November.<br />

Founded in 1995 and named after long-time Canmore<br />

musician, Vic Lewis. Canmore plays host to 800-1,000<br />

young musicians in a weekend of concert band and jazz<br />

band performances, workshops and clinics with esteemed<br />

conductors and clinicians.<br />

Held annually in the month of February, Canmore’s<br />

Winter Carnival has indoor and outdoor fun in store for<br />

every member of the family. From ice carving to log<br />

sawing, ice hockey to musical concerts, performances and<br />

dances to art openings, skating and family fun - everyone<br />

in Canmore can find a way to have fun and keep warm<br />

during Canmore’s Winter Carnival.<br />

The Alpine Club of celebrates Canadian mountain culture<br />

CAAG´s mandate is to stimulate activities in all creative<br />

visual arts and provide the vehicle to make the artist and<br />

artisan visible in the community, to encourage and promote<br />

professional exhibitions, amateur shows, and to create<br />

workshops to heighten the awareness of the creative visual<br />

arts. The gallery is located in the Canmore Public Library<br />

Seniors’ Association offering a variety of seasonal activities<br />

and resources for seniors, including the "Songsters" seniors<br />

singing group, card games, socials, teas, excercise<br />

classes, various sports. Meanderthals hiking group self<br />

Literary Kaleidoscope in the Bow Valley follows the<br />

program for Calgary’s Literary Kaleidoscope, and presents<br />

a condensed program in spring and fall featuring great<br />

Beth Cairn’s passions are downhill and backcountry skiing,<br />

mountain biking, hiking and the mountains. She expresses<br />

this through her art and passion for woodworking which she<br />

inherited from her Uncle, a master woodworker in Ste.<br />

Adele, Quebec. Each piece is drawn on a tableau of wood<br />

then the negative space removed using a rotary tool, a<br />

router to soften the edges and further details by hand. She<br />

then paints them with acrylic paint and frames each with<br />

solid fir.<br />

Bigoudi is the ‘Nom de Plume’ of artist Pascale Ouellet, a<br />

painter represented by Elevation Gallery. She works with<br />

encaustic (molten wax) to create large scale paintings of<br />

animals and human figure. Please visit her regularly<br />
