Thiscreates a fastening system that is vibrationproof and meets military specifi cations.The Vi-LOC fastening system may beloosened by exerting approximately 50%more torque than required for tightening.When a bolt elongates due to vibration orshock, the nut or capscrew starts to rotateloose. The Vi-LOC system prevents thissince the cam rise angle is greater thanthe lead angle of the thread. As one pieceof the Vi-LOC attempts to rotate with thenut or capscrew, the preload is actuallyincreased, forcing the assembly back to atight fi tting unit.The Vi-LOC principle calls for two washershaped pieces that have inclined camson one side and a series of ridges on theother.
