At the time <strong>of</strong> death, hisresidence was listed as No. 1 Florida Route 2, just inside the Alabama line. His doctor was J.W. Beasley<strong>of</strong> Geneva, Alabama. According to his death certificate, Thomas was involved in the grocery business. Hewas buried at the Mt. Ida Cemetery (grave unmarked) near New Hope, Florida in Holmes County. Lena<strong>Alford</strong> is buried at Westville Cemetery with her first husband. Thomas James had no children with Lena.Children by Catherine W. Margaret Louise <strong>Alford</strong>, named after her maternal grandmother, Margaret LouiseNeal. She was born in July 1877 in Holmes County, Florida. The 1900 census shows herliving with her mother in Westville, Florida (Holmes County). In Holmes County, on August30, 1903, she married Herbert A.Thorton (1875-1949) <strong>of</strong> Ohio. The couple lived a short timein Westville, but after the infant death <strong>of</strong> their first and only child (buried in WestvilleCemetery next to grandmother Catherine Neal <strong>Alford</strong>), they moved to Gainesville, Georgia(Hall County) in 1904, where Herbert owned a grocery store, according to the 1910 census.By 1930 they had moved to Tampa, Florida, where they were living on Patterson Avenue.Louise worked as a dressmaker. She died on October 25, 1939 in Tampa, Florida (FloridaDeath Index). William David <strong>Alford</strong>, son <strong>of</strong> Thomas James <strong>Alford</strong>, named afterboth <strong>of</strong> his grandfathers, was born on April 17, 1879 (death certificate) in Holmes County,Florida. In 1900 he was listed on the Holmes County federal census, as living with hismother. His father had gone to Texas for a while. At this time he made his living as atelephone operator. In 1917 William registered for the draft in Holmes County. At the time<strong>of</strong> his registration, his occupation was that <strong>of</strong> being a structural iron worker for ShepherdElectric Construction Company out <strong>of</strong> Portsmouth, Virginia. In 1920, William was listed onthe federal census as a boarder <strong>of</strong> Julian Cooey in Holmes County. By the 1930 census, hehad moved to Taylor County, Florida (Pleasant Hill), where he boarded with Charles Brown.He soon became a railroad worker, a lifetime occupation in which he retired from in the late1940s. In later years William lived in Perry, Florida (Taylor County). He died on April 5,1958 (death certificate) in Perry at Doctors Memorial Hospital. He is buried at WoodlawnCemetery in Perry. (79) Susan MarieAntoinette <strong>Alford</strong>, daughter <strong>of</strong> William Henry and Samantha, was born on Decemember 15, 1863 in PikeCounty, Alabama. In 1868 she moved to Walton County, Florida with her parents. In 1870 she is shownliving with her parents, near Darlington, Florida, and 1880 in Holmes County, where they moved to in1873. In about 1884 she married Ruben Davis (1852-unknown / b. Alabama - found living with hismother, Clara Davis in 1860 Holmes County census), probably in Holmes County. The couple is shownliving in the New Hope Community in Holmes County (state census) in 1885. At that time, Marie'sbrother, Henry Marion <strong>Alford</strong>, was living with them. Although I have no pro<strong>of</strong>, Marie apparently died1897 during childbirth. Her minor children, born from 1885-1897, were living in Shelby County, Texas in1900 with their Uncle, Henry Marion <strong>Alford</strong>. The last child, Margaret L. Davis, was born in Florida inMarch <strong>of</strong> 1897. It is not known when Marie's husband died. Nothing else is known about her. SusanMarie Antoinette <strong>Alford</strong> Davis had the following known children: Martha Davis (5/1885-unknown / b.Holmes County, Fla.), Elizabeth Davis (3/1887-unknown / b.
