Hattie Scott #1135, b. 7 Jan 1886, Holmes County, Florida, d. 2 Apr 1962,DeFuniak Springs (Walton Co), Florida, buried: 5 Apr 1962, Sandy Creek Cemetery near Ponce, Florida.William died 7 Jun 1911, Sandy Creek (Holmes County), Florida, buried: 9 Jun 1911, Sandy CreekCemetery in Holmes County. William Chorner <strong>Alford</strong>, oldest son <strong>of</strong> William Lafayette <strong>Alford</strong>, was bornon May 17, 1874 in Holmes County, Florida near Lake Cassidy. He appears to have been named after hisUncle Chorner Alexander <strong>Alford</strong>, who died as an infant in 1861. In 1899 William Chorner married HattieScott (1/7/1886-4/2/1962) in Holmes County. In 1900 he is listed on the Holmes County, Florida censusin the Sandy Creek precinct. William made a living as a day laborer in the turpentine industry. Livingwith him at the time, was his brother Lovell Ezra <strong>Alford</strong> and his wife, Rebecca Nowling <strong>Alford</strong>. In 1910,William Chorner was living next door to his father, William Lafayette, on one side, and his brother, LovelEzra <strong>Alford</strong>, on the other. A literate man, William Chorner <strong>Alford</strong> died as a relatively young man <strong>of</strong> aheart attack, on June 7, 1911 in Holmes County. He is buried in Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery inHolmes County. This is an old marker near the front gate. Hattie Scott <strong>Alford</strong> later married Jesse Hardyon December 6, 1914. Rebecca Nowling #1137, b. 10 Jan 1885, Holmes County, Florida, d. 20Jan 1966, De Funiak Springs (Walton Co), Florida, buried: 22 Jan 1966, Sandy Creek Cemetery inHolmes County. Charles died 19 Jul 1968, Bonifay (Holmes County), Florida, buried: 21 Jul 1968, SandyCreek Cemetery in Holmes County. Charles Lovell Ezra <strong>Alford</strong>, son <strong>of</strong> William Lafayette <strong>Alford</strong>, wasborn on February 23, 1877 in Holmes County, Florida. Named after his grandfather, Lovel Moore andUncle Ezra Moore, he grew up in Holmes County, near Lake Cassidy, and married Rebecca Nowling(1/10/1885-1/20/1966 / b. Holmes County) in Walton County, Florida in 1900. The 1885 Florida StateCensus shows him (listed as C.L.E. <strong>Alford</strong>) living with his parents in Holmes County, Florida. In 1900"Love" <strong>Alford</strong> and his wife were living with his older brother, William Chorner <strong>Alford</strong>. In 1910 "Love"was living next door to his brother, William Chorner <strong>Alford</strong>, and two houses from his father, WilliamLafayette <strong>Alford</strong> in the Sandy Creek area <strong>of</strong> Holmes County. In 1917 he registered for the draft in HolmesCounty. In 1920 "Love" was still living in Holmes County, on the Scott's Mill to Westville Road. OnFebruary 3, 1920, he gave oil rights to some <strong>of</strong> his land to the Oklahoma Star Refining Company. Thecensus that year shows him living next door to his sister-in-law, Hattie "<strong>Alford</strong>" Hardy, and her secondhusband, Jesse Hardy. Her first husband, William Chorner <strong>Alford</strong>, Love's brother, had died in 1911.Love's nephew and niece, Millard and Annie <strong>Alford</strong>, also lived next door. Apparently, Jesse Hardy hadmoved in with his new wife at her established home. On November 2, 1922, "Love" sold land to CalupLedden. In about 1927, "Love" and Rebecca moved to Polk County, Florida to farm. He stayed thereuntil 1930, when he moved back to the area and settled at Eucheeanna in Walton County. He stayed atEucheeanna until about 1936, when he moved back to Holmes County near Ponce de Leon. Rebecca diedon January 20, 1966 in De Funiak Springs, Florida at Walton County Hospital. After the death <strong>of</strong> hiswife, "Love" moved to Panama City, Florida, where he lived with his niece, Betty Grainger, and herfamily. After a short stay there he moved back home to stay with his son, William Purlis <strong>Alford</strong>. By late1967 he moved into the nursing home in Bonifay, Florida. "Love" died on July 15, 1968 in Bonifay(Holmes County). "Love" <strong>Alford</strong>, an avid fisherman, was a very religious man and was a member <strong>of</strong>Sandy Creek Baptist Church. Several people had said he was one <strong>of</strong> the best men they ever knew. "Love"and Rebecca are both buried at Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Holmes County.
