Alice Booney <strong>Alford</strong>, daughter <strong>of</strong>William Henry <strong>Alford</strong>, was born on March 10, 1854 in Coosa County, Alabama. She spent most <strong>of</strong> herchildhood years in Pike County, Alabama, however, in 1868 she moved to Walton County, Florida(Limestone) with her parents. In 1870 she is shown living at home with her parents. In about 1872, Alice,a literate woman, married Daniel Smith (1/16/1852-1/22/1935) in Holmes County. They set up theirhomestead in the Sandy Creek area <strong>of</strong> Holmes County immediately after marriage. In 1880 (federalcensus) the couple still lived in the Sandy Creek area <strong>of</strong> Holmes County, not far from her sister, Emma,and her father William Henry <strong>Alford</strong>. Her cousin Jane <strong>Alford</strong> Tadlock and her husband Benjamin livedtwo houses away. In 1885 (state census), Alice and Daniel Smith were living next door to WilliamLafayette <strong>Alford</strong>, Alice's brother, who had taken over his father's land. William Henry <strong>Alford</strong> had gone toLake Defuniak in Walton County around 1882. From 1881 to 1885 Alice's husband, Daniel Smith, wasthe clerk at New Hope Baptist Church in Holmes County, serving for a while under his father-in-law,William Henry <strong>Alford</strong>, the pastor. Sometime in the early 1890s (after their last child was born), the familymoved to Bristol, Florida (Liberty County), just southeast <strong>of</strong> Holmes County. In 1900 (Federal Census)they were shown living in Bristol, where they lived the rest <strong>of</strong> their lives. Daniel died in 1935 and"Booney" died a year later, on May 26, 1936. They are buried at Lake Mystic Cemetery just south <strong>of</strong>Bristol. "Booney" and Daniel Smith had the following children: Mary L.
