Amos B.<strong>Alford</strong>, son <strong>of</strong> Samuel Bloxcom <strong>Alford</strong>, was born on December 19, 1904 (SSDI) in Louisiana. In 1920 hewas living with his father and stepmother in Newton County, Texas. In about 1922, Amos moved as ayoung man to Chicago, Illinois, where he took up the occupation <strong>of</strong> printer. The fact that his brother,Murray, lived there, probably led him there. He became a supervisor with Donnelley Printing Company.Soon after arrival he met and married Thelma Adelaide ? (5/6/1907-12/1985) in 1924 in Chicago. Amosand family show on the 1930 census, living on W. 83rd Street in Chicago. By 1940, they had moved to ahouse at 7136 Aberdeen Street in suburban Palos Heights, Illinois. According to the Suburban EconomistNewspaper, on March 30, 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Amos <strong>Alford</strong> threw a birthday party to celebrate their son,Amos's 16th birthday and their daughter, Ethels's 15th birthday. On August 14, 1941, Amos, his wife, andtwo chidren drove to the Beaumont area <strong>of</strong> Texas to visit his father, Samuel <strong>Alford</strong>, as well as otherrelatives, including his first cousin, Henry Alma <strong>Alford</strong>. According to the newspaper, they returned toPalos Heights after a two week stay on September 3, 1941. In 1952, at the time <strong>of</strong> his father's death,Amos was atill living in the Chicago, Illinois area (father's obituary), where he lived until his death. Hedied in August 1978 in Cook County, Illinois. (206) Della King <strong>Alford</strong>, daughter <strong>of</strong>George Towns <strong>Alford</strong>, was born on October 30, 1871 in Walker County, Alabama, near Jasper. Shemarried Thomas Montgomery Crews (4/22/1872-2/17/1946) on August 5, 1891 in Yalubusha County,Mississippi, where she had grown up. After marriage they moved to her husband's hometown <strong>of</strong> WaterValley, Mississippi, also in Yalubusha County. After the death <strong>of</strong> her parents, Della raised her minorsiblings. By 1895 the young family moved to Dora, Alabama (Walker County), the home <strong>of</strong> her maternalgrandparents. They lived there until 1899, when they moved to nearby Jefferson County, Alabama, not farfrom Birmingham. They lived there until around 1903, when they moved back to Dora. In 1907 Dellaand Thomas loaded up and moved west to the newly formed State <strong>of</strong> Oklahoma, for the promise <strong>of</strong> cheapland. They originally settled in Leflore County, near Bokoshe, but by 1912 they were residing in HaskellCounty, in the town <strong>of</strong> Stigler. Della died on February 22, 1920 in Stigler. Her husband, Thomas, died 26years later in LeFlore County, Oklahoma. Della and Thomas Crews had the following children: LillieMae Crews (5/11/1893-12-1945 / b. Yalubusha Co., Ms / d.
