Programs / 0123Tsinghua SEM Attracts the Best and BrightestTsinghua SEM’s educational guideline is to produce graduates with an internationalperspective and adaptable to the development of the socialist market economy. Toachieve this, the school has been controlling its enrollment and improving the teachingquality constantly. As of September, 2006,there are 3716 students in Tsinghua SEM,about 1/10 percent of the total Tsinghua University student body.The undergraduate program has always been a dream pursued by millions of studentsacross the country; about half of its undergraduates would continue to do their masterand Ph.D. programs at Tsinghua SEM.Tsinghua SEM admits overseas students as well as domestic students. Programs / 0123Academic Degrees ProgramsBachelor ProgramTsinghua SEM offers a four-year bachelor degree in the areas of Information Managementand Systems, Finance, Accounting, and Economics. The latter three majors havethe option to pursue a two-year Master Degree program after undergraduate study. Financemajors can also choose a four-year PhD degree program. Freshmen and sophomorestudents must first study pre-requisites before they can focus on specific interestsduring the remaining two years.Accounting: This major is dedicated to equipping the graduates with modern accountingand relevant knowledge in audit, finance, investment, enterprises management, marketing,economics, law and computer science, which qualify them for international standards.Economics: This subject is to foster students to not only grasp systematic economicstheory knowledge and scientific analysis methods, but also realize the facts of China’seconomy. Programs / 0123EMBA ProgramProgram ProfileThe EMBA Program of Tsinghua University pursues the mission of “cultivate businessleaders to shape the future of Chinese enterprises” and combines cutting-edgemanagement theories with Chinese conditions with a view to training high-levelmanagement talents that are innovative and competitive in the global arena.Since its inception, The Tsinghua EMBA Program has trained more than 1500 students,the most among EMBA programs in China. Our EMBA students mainly include executivesfrom leading state owned enterprises, domestic private businesses and multinationalcorporations. 84% of our EMBA students are above the vice general manager level and58% of the entire student body are presidents or general managers. Academic Research / 8!9:Academic ResearchWhile pursuing excellence in teaching, Tsinghua SEM also commits itself to excellentresearch. Tsinghua SEM’s research is greatly enriched by its close ties with Chineseindustries and governments, as well as with other world-class departments, labs andcenters both at Tsinghua and across the globe. Nine research centers and eight departmentsare housed in Tsinghua SEM. The departments are organized according to academicdisciplines and dedicated to teaching and research in their specific fields.In China, educational programs and research areas in public universities are organizedby China’s Ministry of Education and State Council. In recognition of its strong researchcapability, the Ministry granted Tsinghua SEM three key disciplines: Management Scienceand Engineering, Technology Economics and Management, and Quantitative Economics(Econometrics). Besides Tsinghua University, no other business school in Chinahas been awarded three key disciplines.One of Tsinghua SEM’s research centers, The Center for Contemporary Managementand Technology Innovation, has been granted as a National Innovation Base in SocialScience. This Center is the only management discipline among all 50 national bases inArts & Humanity, Philosophy and Social Sciences disciplines. In addition, as a result ofseparate competition and evaluations, Center for Contemporary Management Researchand Center for Technology Innovation Research were respectively granted by the Ministryof Education of China as two of the 120 key research bases in China in relatedacademic disciplines.Academic publications by Tsinghua SEM faculty amount to an annual total of over 300research articles and 50 books. Each year, more than 60 new research projects andmore than 10 million (RMB) ($1.3 million) in research funding are approved and sponsoredby governments, companies and international agencies.For example, the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is one of the most importantfoundations in China and provides funding to a large number of universities andresearch institutions. In previous years, Tsinghua SEM has been ranked No. 1 in thenumber of NSFC research grants per year. Moreover, in addition to being awarded NSFCkey projects, our faculty have also been presented honors for “National Innovation” and“Distinguished Youth Research”.33
