Introduction
Saving energy and protecting the climate
Viessmann is aware of its responsibility for sustained protection of the environment.
Its company philosophy and products focus on this.
"Nothing is so good that it cannot be
improved". This guideline is also reflected
in our company principles. In this industry,
Viessmann can rightfully claim to be the
leader in quality and technology, and as such,
aims to continually set new standards.
Of course, this applies in particular to
the company's product range, which is
consistently geared towards significantly
lowering the consumption of fossil fuels,
and gradually replacing them with renewable
sources of energy.
At around 40 percent, the heating market
actually accounts for the largest proportion
of energy consumption in Germany. The rest
is shared by "goods transport", "personal
transport" and "power", with 20 percent each.
These are values that can also be applied, to
some extent, to other industrial countries.
Ever-rising energy costs mean that the
emphasis is on reducing the consumption of
fossil fuels as quickly as possible and utilising
these fuels with greater efficiently.
Natural heat
The heating system from Viessmann
Heat pumps should be your first choice if your
priorities are both to save on heating costs
and to generate heat in an environmentally
responsible way. After all, the environment
gives us an unlimited and free supply of the
energy a heat pump uses. This fully-fledged
heating system only consumes little power
for drives and pumps to make that energy
available. This makes you independent of
fossil fuels, and in addition you make an active
contribution towards reducing CO2 emissions
and protecting the climate.
As a pioneer in the field of standard heat
pumps, Viessmann has been setting
standards in efficient utilisation of energy and
longevity of service life with its advanced
systems for 30 years. This means you also
benefit from its many years of experience as a
supplier of comprehensive heating systems.
Whether for modernisation or new build:
Viessmann has the right solution for you, too!
Viessmann offers you energy
efficient heating systems for
oil, gas, solar, biomass and
natural heat. The pictographs
will help to guide you.
Introduction
Heat pump
VITOCAL
Simple principle, great result
The technical principle of a heat pump is similar to that of a fridge –
it just works the other way round.
In a fridge, heat is transferred from the
inside to the outside. With a heat pump,
this happens exactly the other way round.
The heat from outside – for example from
the ground – is transferred via the heating
system to the inside, into the living space. To
raise the temperature, a refrigerant vapour
is compressed until the temperature for
central and DHW heating is reached. With
the Vitocal 300-G and Vitocal 350-A, this can
even be up to 65 °C. This means this heat
pump can also be used for modernisation
projects.
Highly efficient scroll compressor
The compression process is vital for the
efficiency of a heat pump. Viessmann heat
pumps use a Compliant scroll compressor
that is comprised of two interlocking spirals
that continuously compress the refrigerant.
Compression process
65 °C
Ground
Temperature all year round between 5 and 18 °C (at 2 m depth)
Getting hotter towards the centre – from an initial
temperature of between 5 and 18 °C, a flow temperature of
up to 65 °C is achieved.
As with a bicycle pump, the temperature also
rises with increasing pressure. This ensures
efficient temperature raising from the cold
side (the heat source on the outside) to the
hot side (the heating circuit in the building).
Compliant scroll compressors as used by
Viessmann is that they operate quietly and
with low vibrations, are maintenance free and
extremely durable.
You won't need to worry about heating
bills any more
An investment in a Viessmann heat pump
will always be worthwhile because you won't
have to pay for any more fuel from day one.
From now on, the energy you use to generate
heat comes free, from right outside your door.
Furthermore, the power needed to exploit this
free fuel is very efficiently used. From one
kilowatt of power, a heat pump can generate
between 3 and 4 kW of heat.
A heat pump can make use of the
following energy sources:
Air as energy source:
Practically unlimited availability; lowest
investment costs
Ground as energy source:
Via geothermal collector or geothermal probe;
very efficient
Water as energy source:
Extremely efficient; observe water quality
Waste heat as energy source:
Subject to availability, volume and
temperature level of the waste heat
The best heat source for each individual case
depends on local conditions and the actual
heat demand.

Heat pumps
VITOCAL
You can either get annoyed about ever-rising energy prices or make yourself
independent of fossil fuels, relying on proven technology instead.
Vitocal heat pumps from Viessmann utilise
the unlimited, free natural heat in the
environment. It is unlimited and free. This
heating technology is amongst the most
economical and clean of all options for heat
generation. To ensure that this remains
the case and that heat pump technology is
continuously improved and therefore becomes
even more efficient, Viessmann is putting
innovative development and improvement at
the top of its list. Only when the customer is
satisfied with Viessmann heat pumps can the
company be satisfied too.
Vitocal 333-G, NC including all components for natural cooling
Vitocal 343-G, generally including the option to connect to a solar thermal system
The Vitocal 343-G and Vitocal 333-G were
developed as compact and highly efficient
solutions for new build. In the course of
this development, generously sized heat
exchangers enabled a high COP
(COP = coefficient of performance) of 4.7 to
EN 14511 with brine 0 °C/water 35 °C to be
achieved.
In addition, the seasonal performance factor
could also be maximised. It describes the ratio
between the amount of heat (heating energy)
transferred and input energy (drive energy)
over the course of a full year. The innovative
RCD system (Refrigerant Cycle Diagnostic)
played a vital role in the improvement of the
seasonal performance factor. This system
enables a highly precise and rapid control
of the refrigerant circuit via an electronic
expansion valve. The RCD system ensures
that the heat pump operates with optimum
efficiency at every operating point.
In addition, energy saving, high efficiency
DC pumps compliant with Energy Label A
for the brine and heating circuit, ensure very
low consumption costs and therefore a high
seasonal performance factor in all three
compact appliances.
With solar cylinders or natural cooling
Vitocal 343-G is designed for the connection
of a solar thermal system for DHW heating.
A generously sized solar cylinder with a 220 l
capacity and a solar control unit have been
integrated into the appliance for this purpose.
In the compact Vitocal 333-G, a DHW cylinder
with a 170 l capacity ensures a convenient
supply of DHW. To help cool you down on
hot summer days, the Vitocal 333-G is also
available in a version with an integral natural
Small footprint
With their space saving designs, the
Vitocal 343-G and Vitocal 333-G are
particularly suitable for anywhere where
space is restricted. The brine and heating
circuit pumps and the 3-way diverter valve are
already integrated inside the compact casing
that completely protects the cooling module/
hydraulic compartment from the outside
environment and, in conjunction with the
new three-dimensional anti-vibration mounts,
minimises operating noise. These compact
heat pumps are some of the quietest in their
category, as they only generate 38 dB(A) at
0/35 °C.
For easier handling, the height of the unit was
reduced and the body designed to split into
sections. Variable connection accessories
supplied ex works make heat pump
installation easier.
Extremely easy to operate
Like all our compact appliances, the
Vitocal 343-G and Vitocal 333-G, too,
are equipped with the new, user-friendly
Vitotronic control unit. If in doubt, help is
available at the push of a button. The graphic
interface will also display heating curves and
solar yield.
The programming unit of the Vitotronic control
unit can be removed from the front of the
appliance and be replaced with an external
programming unit, available as an accessory,
and a dummy cover. A five metre long power
cable enables the external programming
unit to be mounted almost anywhere in a
convenient position on a wall mounting base.
Always accessible
Subject to demand, the new Vitotronic
control unit can be fitted with convenient
communication technology. From
Vitocom 100 to Vitocom 300, versatile remote
monitoring and remote control options are
Heat pumps Vitocal 300-G
VITOCAL 300-G
With the Vitocal 300-G, you can utilise sustainable heat stored underground or in ground
water. This heat pump was designed for utmost compactness, so it takes up remarkably
little space: Inside the casing of the BWC/WWC models, the circulation pumps for the
brine circuit and the heating circuit, as well as the 3-way diverter valve, are already
integrated.
The Vitocal 300-G ground source heat pump
is specifically designed for detached houses.
It utilises heat that's right on your doorstep.
What's more, you call the shots, selecting
the output from 6.2 to 117.8 kW, making it
both efficient and effective. So your central
and DHW heating needs will be reliably and
conveniently covered.
Heat from the ground or groundwater
You can choose how you get heat from the
ground with the ground source version. This
is done either via a geothermal probe or
via a geothermal collector laid at a depth of
approx. 1.5 m. In both cases, the heat pump
covers the entire energy demand, even on
colder days. Subject to the location of your
house, it may also be possible to utilise the
latent heat in groundwater. For this, the
Vitocal 300-G is simply converted to operate
as a water/water heat pump – and delivers the
highest COP in this operating mode.
Tightly packed performance
The Vitocal 300-G (type BWC/WWC) proves
its worth through its particularly compact
design. It contains everything Circulation
pumps for brine circuit and heating circuit
including a safety assembly with safety valve,
pressure gauge and air vent valve fitted as
standard. This clever integration minimises
the space required. An electric booster heater
is available as an accessory.
Greater heat demand?
No problem for the Vitocal 300-G
For buildings with a very high heat demand,
the two-stage Vitocal 300-G based on the
master/slave principle is the right choice. It
achieves a heating output of 12.4 to 117.8 kW.
Here, you also have the choice between the
groundwater or the ground as the heat source.
Vitocal 300-G are
certified in accordance
with the EHPA heat
pump quality seal and
Vitocal 300-G
Powerful, quiet and reliable
The heart of the Vitocal 300-G is its powerful
Compliant scroll compressor. It convinces
through excellent reliability, safety and
particularly quiet operation, thanks, in part,
to the hermetic seal and dual anti-vibration
mounts. At the same time, the Compliant
scroll compressor ensures the highest
performance factors and flow temperatures
up to 65 °C.
Support from the sun
An advanced heating system should include
innovative solar technology. For instance,
using solar energy to back up your heat pump.
For this, Viessmann offers you a system that
is a perfect match for the Vitocal 300-G.
Perfect for higher output levels too
Even for greater heat demand, the
Vitocal 300-G is the right choice, because
you can link several separate heat pumps
via the heating flow and return. This does
not just deliver the higher heat output, but
also increases the operational reliability of
the entire system. The modular design with
separate compressor circuits also provides a
2 3
particularly high efficiency in the partial
load range, and simultaneously enables the
operation of central heating and DHW heating.
RCD system for an optimum heat pump
operation
RCD stands for Refrigerant Cycle Diagnostic
system. It continually monitors the refrigerant
circuit within the Vitocal 300-G and, in
conjunction with the electronic expansion
valve, ensuring the highest level of efficiency
at any operating point.
Modular solution for higher heat demand
With six output sizes as a master or slave
version, various combinations can be realised,
precisely matched to the required heat
demand. Because of this flexibility, systems
can be configured so that runtimes match
demand, thus saving you money.
The master module regulates the slave
module. By combining different output
sizes, users have the option of matching the
environmentally responsible heating system
to their own heat demand – as, for example,
in an apartment building – as efficiently as
possible by utilising various modules. There is
also the option to equip the entire system with
high efficiency DC pumps (Energy Label A).
Vitocal 300-G
The Vitocal 300-G is specifically designed for
detached houses and apartment buildings.
It utilises heat that's right on everyone's
doorstep, either with a single stage brine/
water heat pump, from 21.2 to 42.8 kW,
or with a water/water heat pump from
28.1 to 58.9 kW – tailored to the specific
heat demand.
For apartment buildings or applications with
a very high heat demand, the two-stage
Vitocal 300-G, based on the master/slave
principle, is the right choice. It can deliver a
heating output from 42.4 to 85.6 kW (brine/
water) or from 56.2 to 117.8 kW (water/
water). You also have the choice between the
groundwater or the ground as your preferred
heat source. Where this output is still not
enough, the cascade function integrated into
the control unit enables output to be raised up
to 471.2 kW (water/water).
Powerful and reliable
At the heart of the Vitocal 300-G lies its
powerful Compliant scroll compressor. This
convinces with a high degree of operational
safety and reliability. The Vitocal 300-G, in
conjunction with the large heat exchangers
and the integral refrigerant manifold, achieves
a high coefficient of performance and flow
temperatures of up to 60 °C.
2
4
1
High output and quiet operation are not
mutually exclusive
The new Vitocal 300-G can prove that
conclusively. The hermetically sealed casing
and particularly clever design enable a
reduction in noise emissions that far exceeds
expectations in this output range.
RCD system for an optimum heat pump
operation
RCD stands for Refrigerant Cycle Diagnostic
system. It provides a permanent monitoring of
the refrigerant circuit within the Vitocal 300-
G and, in conjunction with the electronic
expansion valve, ensures the highest level of
efficiency at any operating point.
Perfect for higher output levels too
Especially for a higher heat demand, the
Vitocal 300-G is the first choice, because
you can link several separate heat pumps
via the heating flow and return. This does
not just deliver the higher heat output, but
it also increases the operational reliability of
the entire system. The modular design, with
separate compressor circuits, also ensures
particularly high levels of efficiency in partial
load operation, and enables the simultaneous
operation of central and DHW heating.
Modular solution for higher heat demand
With three output sizes, as master or slave
version, various combinations can be realised,
all precisely matched to the actual heat
demand. These different versions, and sizing
according to demand, enable systems to be
configured so that runtimes are optimised,
ensuring an economical operation. The master
module regulates the slave module. By
combining different output sizes, users have
the option of matching the environmentally
responsible heating system to their specific
heat demand as efficiently as possible by
utilising different modules.
An investment in a Viessmann heat pump,
such as the Vitocal 200-G, is always
worthwhile because you won't have to pay for
any more fuel from day one. From now on,
the energy you use to generate heat comes
free, from right outside your door.
Furthermore, the power needed to exploit this
free fuel is very efficiently used. From one
kilowatt of power, a heat pump can generate
between 3 and 4 kW of heat.
A solid investment for the future
Durability is a key feature of all Viessmann
heat pumps. All materials used must comply
with the most stringent demands; strict
quality conditions are applied throughout the
manufacturing process as well. This will pay
off for you, for example, the refrigerant circuit
is hermetically sealed and therefore requires
no maintenance.
The environment benefits
It's good to know that heat pumps
significantly reduce CO2 emissions every day
whilst they provide DHW and central heating.
After all, no fossil fuels are used here. This
means you protect valuable natural resources,
and by purchasing a Vitocal 200-G, you
also make a personal contribution to active
climate protection.
Vitocal 350-A
VITOCAL 350-A
Do you want to modernise your heating system with a heat pump, but are unable to
make use of heat from the ground or groundwater? No problem with the Vitocal 350-A
air source heat pump.
The Vitocal 350-A air source heat pump
with rated heating outputs 10.6 to 18.5 kW
is particularly suitable for modernisation
projects. Thanks to enhanced vapour injection
in the compression process (EVI cycle),
developed by Viessmann, flow temperatures
of up to 65 °C can be achieved – even at
winter outside temperatures. This air source
heat pump can therefore also be used in older
heating systems equipped with radiators.
The Vitotronic 200 heat pump control unit
of the Vitocal 350-A has an integral cascade
function. This means that, in buildings with
a high heat demand, up to four air source
heat pumps can be operated in a cascade.
Cumulative heating outputs of up to 74 kW
are therefore possible.
Air source heat pump with particularly
high efficiency
An electronic expansion valve and RCD
system also ensure an extremely high level of
efficiency for the Vitocal 350-A all year round.
For air source heat pumps, the Vitocal 350-A
offers a high coefficient of performance,
i.e. 3.5 (in accordance with EN 14511 at
air 2 °C/water 35 °C), resulting in high
seasonal performance factors and very low
running costs.
Space saving thanks to outside
installation
The Vitocal 350-A can be installed either
internally or externally. The three-stage radial
fan in the heat pump, as well as the flowoptimised
air routing and the sound insulated
casing together make the Vitocal 350-A
extremely quiet and during night operation
the variable-stage fan control unit reduces
the speeds and thus the noise emissions
even further.
Vitocal 350-G are
certified in accordance
with the EHPA heat
pump quality seal and
NF-PAC.
Vitocal 350-A
Ideal for modernisation
The Vitocal 350-A air source heat pump
makes modernising easy. The additional
vapour injection in the compressor process
(EVI cycle) enables flow temperatures of up
to 65 °C. This therefore makes them an ideal
choice for older heating systems equipped
with radiators. The heat pump draws its
energy from the ambient air so there is non of
the inconvenience of drilling boreholes as for
geothermal probes.
High DHW convenience
Subject to system version, a higher flow
temperature enables a water temperature
of up to 55 °C inside the DHW cylinder.
This allows the Vitocal 350-A to deliver
a particularly high DHW convenience.
The Vitocal 350-A achieves its high flow
temperature of 65°C even at outside
temperatures as low as –10 °C.
7
2
RCD guarantees efficient operation
RCD stands for Refrigerant Cycle Diagnostic
system. In the Vitocal 350-A, it is responsible
for permanently monitoring the refrigerant
circuit. This, in conjunction with the electronic
expansion valve (EEV) ensures the highest
efficiency at every operating point. Alongside
this, important operating parameters are
saved and called up, when required, for
diagnosis, optimisation, energy statements
and to calculate the seasonal efficiency (SPF).
Just perfect
If the heat pump is installed outside, the heat
needs to be "transported" to the interior of the
house. For this, you can rely on the heating
competence of Viessmann. For routing
underground, you can rely on Viessmann's
specially matched, thermally insulated
pipe systems, as well as a complete range
of accessories.
The Vitocal 300-A opens a new chapter for modulating air source heat pumps
guaranteeing the highest level of efficiency at every stage with its advanced
heat pump technology.
Simply taking energy out of the air and
using it for central and DHW heating sounds
rather tempting. However, especially in
winter, i.e. precisely when the demand for
heating energy is high, the outdoor air does
not contain much energy for a heat pump
to extract. However, this is no problem for
the Vitocal 300-A air/water heat pump. It
is particularly efficient and can, even at an
outside temperature of 6 °C, still deliver a
flow temperature of 60 °C.
Heating efficiently with air
The Vitocal 300-A air/water heat pump
is extremely efficient and achieves high
seasonal performance factors. It can take over
both central and DHW heating. So you can
eliminate the cost of fossil fuels from your
household expenditure right from the start.
You only have to meet the cost of electricity
to run the heat pump system.
Higher convenience, lower investment
No additional investment is required to install
a Vitocal 300-A air source heat pump. There
is no geothermal collector to be installed
or drilling work to be carried out, as is the
case with geothermal probes. Depending
on which version you choose, you may not
need a costly buffer cylinder or primary store
system either, because output is matched to
your needs in an optimum operation. Another
benefit lies in the fact that the Vitocal 300-A
can be installed outside or inside, subject to
the prevailing building conditions.
Vitocal 300-G are
certified in accordance
with the EHPA heat
pump quality seal and
NF-PAC.
Vitocal 300-A
Top technology for top performance
The Vitocal 300-A is the first air source heat
pump with digital scroll technology and an
electronic bi-flow expansion valve. This
means it achieves an extremely high COP
value (coefficient of performance): 3.9 (at
air 2 °C/water 35 °C), enabling exemplary
high and seasonal performance factors, too.
What's more, this makes the Vitocal 300-
A particularly reliable where heat supply is
concerned and very frugal when it comes to
running costs.
RCD system for an optimum heat pump
operation
RCD stands for Refrigerant Cycle Diagnostic
system. It provides constant monitoring of
the refrigerant circuit within the Vitocal 300-
A and, in conjunction with the electronic
expansion valve, ensures the highest level of
efficiency at any operating point.
Not only quiet at night
Particularly quiet operation is ensured by a
radial fan with variable speed control and a
reduced fan speed for night operation.
Everything you need
Every household has a different heat demand
and circumstances concerning the installation
of a heat pump are different from site to site.
The range of accessories for the Vitocal 300-
A is both flexible and comprehensive
enough to meet these challenges. Subject
to requirement, the heat pump can be
supplied fully equipped. This means the HE
DC pump (Energy Label A), 3-way diverter
valve and safety equipment have already
been fully fitted. Even the modular electric
instantaneous heating water heater can be
easily integrated. Finally, Viessmann also
offers the complete product range to meet
the demands of any installation you require –
inside or out.
Monitor and control from wherever
you are
With the new control unit of the
Vitocal 300-A, you can simply connect your
heat pump to the Vitocom 100/300. This
gives you the option of conveniently operating
your heating system via your mobile phone if
you wish.
Cooling – no problem
Thanks to its reversible operation, the
Vitocal 300-A can also be used for cooling.
Convectors or surface cooling systems with
a cooling capacity of up to 9.4 kW give you
the flexibility to make your living area even
more pleasant.
VITOCAL 200-S
The Vitocal 200-S utilises affordable energy from the ambient air.
It is suitable for new build and existing buildings. Combination with existing heat sources
is also easily possible.
Heating and cooling system with internal
and external unit
As an alternative the Vitocal 200-S heat pump
is also available as a heating system only
or as a system for heating and cooling. The
Vitocal 200-S utilises the latent heat in the
outdoor air. The weather-resistant external
unit can be sited where required and is easy
to install, even on external walls, thanks
to its compact dimensions. A freestanding
installation next to the building or on a flat roof
is also possible.
Vitocal 200-S
External and internal unit
As with other heating systems, the internal
unit is sited in a cellar or utility room inside
the building. It is comprised of the hydraulics,
the heat exchanger, a heating circuit pump
and a 3-way diverter valve for a convenient
supply of heating water and DHW. As an
option, a three-stage instantaneous heating
water heater can also be integrated (for type
AWS AC already integrated as standard).
In summer, the Vitocal 200-S, type AWS AC,
can also be used to cool the rooms in the
building. For this, fan convectors or an
underfloor heating system can be used.
Efficient and economical
The Vitocal 200-S operates with astonishing
efficiency, particularly in partial load mode. To
this end, the appliance makes full use of the
benefits offered by a DC inverter. Through
modulation it matches the compressor output
precisely to the prevailing demand and
thereby maintains the required temperature.
When it comes to modernisation, the split
heat pump is ideally suited for efficient dual
mode operation. Under these circumstances,
the existing system remains in operation to
cover peak loads.
Quiet operation through variable
speed control
The modulating operation of the Vitocal 200-S
reduces the frequency of system starting and
stopping. In addition, the variable speed fans
and compressor are significantly less noisy
than those that run at constant operation at
top speed.
Convenient Vitotronic control unit
Contractor and system users benefit equally
from the easy to operate Vitotronic 200
control unit: The control unit, with users
prompts, is structured logically and is easy
to follow. The large backlit display offers
good contrast, making it easy to read. A help
function informs users of the next steps
to perform. The graphic interface will also
display heating and cooling curves. Additional
components from the comprehensive range
can be easily switched. If required, the
programming unit can be installed hard wired
on a wall mounting base up to five metres
away from the Vitocal 200-S.
Extensive service from Viessmann
The refrigerant lines are connected to form a
circuit on site. Consequently, the legislature
specifies that the installation is carried
out by qualified personnel only. Heating
contractors can acquire the relevant expertise
in accordance with the Chemical Safety
Ordinance as part of a one week course at
Viessmann. Systems can be commissioned by
Viessmann's Technical Service department.
With design software developed by
Viessmann in accordance with VDI 4650,
Dual mode systems
Dual mode heating systems: saving twice is better still
Oil and gas prices continue to rise. So what should you do if you have purchased an
advanced oil or gas boiler in the past few years? Simple – save a great deal with a dual
mode heating system, and at the same time reduce emissions.
A heat pump is the ideal way to extend the
heat supply of an existing oil or gas heating
system. Consumption costs are lowered
through the use of free energy from the
environment, causing a simultaneously
reduction in dependence on fossil fuel.
However, a dual mode heating system has
even more benefits:
n Oil storage space and amount of oil to be
stored can be reduced
n The operating times of the existing system
are reduced so the service life is extended
n Power for heat pumps can be obtained at
special tariffs
n The existing DHW heating system can
continue to be used
Little effort, great effect
You only need:
n Three-phase power supply with 400 V
n Installation area for heat pump and heating
water buffer cylinder, approx. 4 m2 n Radiator heating system < 65 °C
n Boiler thermostat setting max. 65 °C
n Options for drawing in outside and
exhaust air when installed inside
n Space to install the special heat pump
meter
n Power supply to the heat pump meter
Vitocal 300-A utilises the outdoor air heated by the sun – and
on cold days, a second heat source can be switched on
automatically by the heat pump control unit.

DHW heating with central heating.
Vitocal 160-A: heat pump for DHW heating
The Vitocal 160-A heats DHW whilst saving
energy and costs. As its heat source, it
uses the warm air inside the building that is
always around and is therefore ideally suited
for use anywhere where heat is available
in abundance, e.g. in bakeries. It can be
operated completely independently of other
heat sources.
Compact DHW station utilises
ambient heat
The compact Vitocal 160-A DHW heat
pump is equipped with all the components
necessary for efficient and space-saving
DHW heating. Together with the heat pump
module (output 1.52 kW, COP = 3.54 at 15 °C
air temperature and 45 °C water temperature),
a 285 litre cylinder, a booster heater and
the control unit are all integrated inside a
single casing.
few keystrokes.
Additional benefits of room cooling or
controlled domestic ventilation
The recirculation air heat pump, Vitocal 160-A,
uses air straight from the room in which it
is installed. As an extract air heat pump, it
draws in warm extract air via ducts from other
rooms, e.g. the bathroom, WC and kitchen.
Part of the latent heat in this air is extracted,
raised to a useful temperature level with the
heat pump, and used to heat the DHW.
The recirculating air heat pump then returns
the cooled and dehumidified air to the
installation room. That room can then be used
as a cool larder for groceries.
In case of an extract air heat pump, the cooled
air is routed to the outside via an exhaust
air duct. In conjunction with ventilation air
apertures that ensure the supply of fresh
outdoor air to the living space, the Vitocal 160-
A becomes the central component of a
controlled domestic ventilation system.
This makes the Vitocal 160-A suitable for
modernisation too.
Heat pumps
Cooling with heat pumps
The primary function of a heat pump is to provide pleasant and convenient heat, and
reliable DHW heating. However, they can also be used to cool a building.
Imagine a hot summer's day. Would you
switch your heating on? Probably not, unless
you have a Viessmann heat pump. After all,
heating systems don't generally have much to
do in summer – apart from heating DHW. It is
different for heat pumps, as some Viessmann
heat pumps also offer a cooling function as an
additional benefit.
Active or passive cooling
When cooling with a heat pump, you can
choose between two different methods:
Passive cooling:
This is where the brine medium or the
groundwater absorbs the energy from the
heating circuit via a heat exchanger and
transfers it outside. This function is also
called natural cooling, as it uses the natural
ambient temperature. Apart from the
control unit and circulation pump, the heat
pump remains switched off.
Active cooling:
For this, the function of the heat pump is
simply reversed. This method of cooling
can be described as "reverse operation".
This means that the refrigerant circuit is
reversed internally or reversal is achieved
by an external changeover of the primary
and secondary circuits. As with a fridge,
cooling is then actively generated by the
heat pump.
Cooling naturally: Natural cooling
While the ground or groundwater is used
in winter to provide energy for heating, in
summer it can be used for natural cooling.
With the natural cooling function, the control
unit only starts the primary pump and heating
circuit pump. This means the relatively hot
water from the underfloor heating system can
transfer its heat in the heat exchanger to the
brine in the primary circuit. This extracts heat
from all rooms that are connected. This makes
natural cooling a particularly energy-efficient
and affordable way to cool buildings.
Natural cooling
NC-Box
NC-Box – energy-efficient and
affordable cooling
The Viessmann NC-Box helps heat pumps to
provide cooling in a completely natural way. In
fact, it's really quite simple. On hot summer
days, the temperatures inside your house are
higher than in the ground or groundwater.
The heat pump control unit then switches
to natural cooling, and uses the ground or
groundwater to dissipate the heat from your
living space.
Saving while cooling
The natural cooling function does not use all
the technology of the heat pump. This means
that, apart from the control unit and circulation
pumps, all other functions remain off. Only
a very small amount of power is therefore
consumed for operation. This makes natural
cooling a particularly energy-efficient and
affordable method for cooling buildings.
The effective thermal insulation of the NC-Box
prevents the formation of condensate.
Everything you need to keep cool
In the Viessmann "Natural Cooling Box", all
components are prefitted. This makes the
thermally insulated box not only compact, but
also particularly simple and quick to install.
With or without mixer
Depending on the sort of cooling needed, the
natural cooling box comes in two different
versions, either with or without mixer. The
integral mixer enables continuous operation
without falling below the dew point.
Active cooling
AC-Box – efficient heating or cooling
The Viessmann AC-Box combines active
cooling and natural cooling in your heat pump
systems, thus making it even more versatile
and convenient. Depending on how cool
you would like your home to be, the system
switches over automatically. If only a low
cooling capacity is required, then natural
cooling is adequate, but if that is no longer
sufficient, active cooling is added.
Cooling using tiny amounts of energy
With natural cooling, the compressor circuit
is not needed. Only the brine and heating
circuit pumps are operational and utilise the
temperature differential between the rooms
and the ground or groundwater. This means
they cool your home in a particularly costeffective
way.
AC-Box
Keep cool when it gets really hot outside
With active cooling, the compressor
circuit starts to work. However, it does not
provide heating – the internal control unit, in
conjunction with the AC-Box, reverses the
output and input functions and now actively
transfers heat out of the building to the
geothermal probe. Cold water now flows
through the heating circuit itself – cooled
down to 7 °C if required.
Utilising extracted energy
Incidentally, you can also make direct use
of the heat transferred out of the rooms in
this way, for example for DHW heating or to
heat a swimming pool. This means you can
combine the cooling and heating functions
extremely effectively.
Well developed technology: The
AC-Box simply starts the heat pump
function – depending on the
required cooling capacity – either
the active or the natural
cooling function.
Domestic ventilation
system
Vitovent 300
VITOVENT 300
Air quality makes a real difference to the quality of life inside our homes. For this however,
an adequate air change rate is essential. However, modern construction practices do not
make this easy, as buildings are designed to be as airtight as possible, to prevent heat
loss. This is where the Vitovent 300 ventilation system comes in, creating a pleasant,
healthy atmosphere in your room, without wasting energy.
Air is considered to be fresh when its CO2 concentration falls below 0.1 percent by
volume and it is free from odours. Opening
the window to achieve this initially seems
to be the best idea. However, window
ventilation is a bit hit and miss. Either we
ventilate too much and waste heating energy,
or we ventilate too little and then feel tired
and listless. In contrast, the Vitovent 300
domestic ventilation system continuously
replaces the air and removes odours and
noxious substances. The result is a pleasant,
healthy climate.
Prevent mould, protect the building fabric
One of the main causes of mould growth
is humid indoor air. Caution: Not only does
mould look unsightly, it is also unhealthy, both
for yourself and for the fabric of your building.
However, investing in a domestic ventilation
system is cheaper than remedying building
damage caused by fungal growth and mould.
Allergy sufferers can breathe a sigh
of relief
A filtration system, employing an effective
pollen filter (cat. F6), cleans the supply air
of harmful substances. This allows allergy
sufferers to enjoy fresh air too and reducing
the growth of mites and mould fungus is
beneficial for everyone.
Enjoy security and quietness
Vitovent 300 ensures a continuous air change
– so windows can stay closed all year round.
That doesn't just offer improved safety
against burglary, but also keeps out any noise
there may be outside.
Vitovent 300
Ventilating virtually without energy loss
Energy saving is Vitovent 300's trump card.
The powerful heat exchanger recovers more
than 90 percent of the latent heat contained in
the stale air and uses it to heat the incoming
air. Thanks to the very efficient DC motors, for
each 1 kWh of electrical energy expenditure,
15 times more heating energy is recovered.
This means that in a living area of 150 m2 for example, you save around 300 l fuel oil
each year.
Cooling with night air
In winter, the majority of the heat contained
in the extract air is recovered through the
heat exchange function. In summer, the heat
exchanger is completely bypassed via the
integral bypass damper. The temperature
controlled bypass circuit allows cool outdoor
air to enter the rooms at night, thereby
ensuring a pleasant room climate.
The Fastflex flat duct system:
space-efficient and easy to install
The Fastflex system for air distribution is
precisely matched to the Vitovent 300. For
one thing, it makes it easier to install and
set up the domestic ventilation system,
and for another, it also saves space. Two
floors can be supplied simultaneously via a
single installation level. The flat ducts are
so versatile that they can adapt to suit any
structural characteristics and they are also
particularly stable and can be routed below
the screed in the floor insulation.
The Vitovent 300 provides a comfortable ambient climate all year round,
reduces the ventilation heat demand and lowers the heating costs.
Take advantage of these benefits:
Domestic ventilation system up to 180, 300 or 400 m3 /h
Ensures a comfortable and healthy ambient climate
Saves on heating costs
Heat recovery level in excess of 90% reduces the ventilation
heat loss to a minimum and lowers the heating costs
Integral, temperature controlled bypass (300 and 400 m3 /h)
circumvents heat recovery in summer (100%) and enables
ventilation with cool night air
Economical DC motors with a constant flow rate and
balance control keep the air flow constant, independent of
the static pressure
Outdoor air filtered with a fine filter – important for allergy
sufferers
Reduces unpleasant odours
Balanced humidity management prevents building damage
Closed windows – improved security against burglary and
noise protection
Convenient control via three freely mountable remote
control units
System technology
A perfect match: System technology
The convenient controls and perfectly matching Viessmann system technology
offer you maximum reliability, flexibility and efficiency.
Viessmann does not simply supply individual
heating equipment components that
correspond to its high standards of quality and
reliability. The same high standards also apply
to Viessmann system technology, where all
components fit together perfectly.
Part of the Viessmann system technology is
the knowledge of what makes a reliable and
economical heating system, namely the heat
pump control unit with integral heat meter as
the highly capable Vitocell DHW cylinders for
optimum DHW convenience.
DHW
DHW convenience for
every demand:
With the Vitocell range of
cylinders from Viessmann,
you have an enormous
choice and maximum
scope when designing
your heating system
The Vitocell range from
Viessmann offers the right
DHW cylinder for every
aspiration.
DHW convenience for every demand
With the Vitocell DHW cylinders, Viessmann offers you the convenient solution to
supplying your household with hot water – the perfect extension to your new heat pump.
The demand for hot water is completely
different in every household. One factor is
the number of residents and another is their
bathing and showering habits. For example,
several people in one household frequently
go to work and school at the same time, so
lots of hot water needs to be continuously
available for the shower in a short space of
time. Those who prefer a bath will also want
to have enough hot water to fill the tub.
Finally, the DHW cylinder should be able to
deliver sufficient water, if in an apartment
block, hot water is being drawn from more
than one outlet at the same time. The Vitocell
DHW cylinders fulfil these requirements in
every respect and are also robust enough to
cope with constant demand.
Optimally matched for use with
heat pumps
Viessmann system solutions from a single
source make it easy for you to utilise the
energy from your heat pump to optimum
effect, for example with a suitable DHW
cylinder especially for heat pumps that are
specifically designed for the requirements of
detached and two-family homes when using a
Vitocal 200, 300 or 350.
DHW convenience that's as individual
as you are
The DHW cylinder is prepared for the
connection of a solar thermal system or the
installation of one or two additional electric
booster heaters with up to 6 kW output for
boosting the DHW temperature.
Strong inner values
Viessmann's product range includes the
Vitocell 300 and Vitocell 100 product groups.
All Vitocell 300 cylinders are made of
stainless steel and meet the most stringent
hygiene requirements. It is no coincidence
that stainless steel is also used for its antibacterial
properties in the processing industry,
in kitchens and in hospitals.
Alternatively, the inner surfaces of the
Vitocell 100 are lastingly protected against
corrosion with the proven Ceraprotect enamel
coating. All DHW cylinders are fully equipped
with high-grade insulation against heat loss.
Internal indirect coils, drawn low down to
the cylinder floor, enable quick and energyefficient
heating of the entire cylinder content.
Squeaky clean: The Vitocell 300
DHW cylinders are made of
that meets the highest
hygiene standards.
Futureproof heating technology for
all requirements
Energy consumption worldwide has doubled
since 1970 and will triple by 2030. The
result: The fossil fuels, oil and gas, are
dwindling, energy prices are on the rise and
excessive CO emissions continue to affect
2
our environment. Energy efficiency is a must if
we want our future to be secure.
In almost every industrial nation, supplying
heat to residential and commercial buildings
accounts for the largest share of energy
consumption – consequently it also offers the
greatest savings potential. Advanced efficient
heating systems from Viessmann are in use
around the world, not only in many private
households, but also in numerous major
international projects, where they make a
sizeable contribution to the efficient use of
energy resources.
In these projects, Viessmann again and
again faces up to the most varied challenges
to supply efficient heating technology by
offering innovative solutions – in historical
listed buildings as well as in modern industrial
complexes or in the large-scale residential and
industrial arena.
