hands-on studies at the clinic of Dr Ehrl and at the
dental offices of Dr Hildebrand and Dr Steffen Köhler.
Many of the participants placed their first implants
during the Curriculum. Dr Ehrl had given them two
specific tasks to complete: one task included the
placement of a single-tooth implant, complete with
photographic case documentation and a presentation
before the group, and the second task included
the placement of implants in an edentulous jaw, also
with documentation and presentation. Each case
was comprehensively discussed in the group.
Greek-German team of presenters
The implementation of this first Curriculum worked
beautifully, with praise due to its architects, Dr Peter
A. Ehrl of Berlin and Dr Efstratios Papazoglou of
Athens. The team they had assembled cooperated
across national boundaries in an easy and uncomplicated
manner. The Greek speakers were Dr Ioannis
Fakitsas, Dr Giorgos Goumenos, Dr Syridon Karatzas,
Dr Konstantin Lagios, Dr Efstratios Papazoglou, Dr Stavros
Pelekanos, Dr Nick Petrou and Dr Nick Raptis. The German
speakers were Dr Peter A. Ehrl, Christian Berger,
Dr Detlef Hildebrand, Dr Steffen Köhler and Professor
Joachim E. Zöller.
Conclusions
Looking back on this successful pilot project, Dr Ehrl
could not help but be satisfied. The goal had not been
“to impose German structures on other countries but
to create European structures that are accessible to
all countries”. This also happens to be the objective
that BDIZ EDI pursues – and it would be great if we
gave a chance to implantological associations in
Europe to build similar structures where this is
desired. BDIZ EDI is ready to help.
