It is not pretended that themoney items, so far as income and expenditures are concerned,are correct to the cent, for the case is extremely rare, even withadult men, where an exact sum of wages is kept throughout theyear, and rarer still of an annual budget of expenses. The basicreturns were as accurate as under the circumstances could becollated, and the averages reduce the possible slight errors to aminimum.As already noted, this inquiry takes in 3,877 working women,of whom 3,119 were engaged in manufacturing and mechanicalindustry, mostly factory workers.
