This centralises the availability of shared facilities within a site orgroup for information such as failure mode libraries and full assessmenttemplates. BHP Billiton Nickel West have recently embraced this formatfor their ongoing reliability improvement initiatives.RCM Turbo and SOS can also run in a Citrix environment. Some of ourusers now access the software world-wide from their own central CitrixServer, thus simplifying the ability of users at different sites to utilise thesoftware and libraries.Strategic now offers RCM Turbo and SOS to organisations anywherein the world from its own centralised SaaS Web Server. Access tothe software is obtained directly through any web browser, makingits use location independent. A feature of the SaaS approach is thatthere is no longer a requirement to install any software on Corporatesystems. Software licences are not “purchased” as they are intraditional implementations, so the involvement of local IT departmentsis minimised. In the SaaS environment, RCM Turbo and SOS can be providedon a ‘rental’ basis by the month or by other agreed periods. Systemfunctionality remains the same as always with full reporting, CMMSoutput and special Excel based add-ins for external manipulation ofdata. In future months, Strategic will release the latest version 15 of RCMTurbo. It will include as standard functionality a number of CMMS related(notably SAP) enhancements that will remove the need for external datamanipulation. In addition, by taking advantage of PremierIntegration, users can configure and commission their MCC faster withRSLogix 5000 software, reducing the risk of errors associated withredundant programming. The Ethernet connection also allows CENTERLINE MCC users to accessinformation remotely. This allows personnel to monitor, troubleshoot anddiagnose the MCC without being exposed to dangerous conditions andpower equipment.Designed to meet global standards, CENTERLINE low-voltageMCCs offer a rugged, high-performance packaging solution to meetmanufacturers’ needs. With embedded IntelliCENTER technology, theCENTERLINE MCCs use a preconfigured and pre-tested network withintegrated hardware and software. This level of integration helps reduceinstallation time with its plug-and-play setup and can help minimisefacility downtime by providing intelligent diagnostic and predictive failureinformation. For more information, visit:http://ab.rockwellautomation.com/Motor-Control/Motor-Control-CentersLegionnaires Protection: Four New StandardsStandards Australia has further refined its suite of standards protectingthe community from the threat of legionnaires disease and othermicrobial organisms.“These standards are important for the control of microbiologicalmatters, such as legionnaires disease, and will further safeguard thewider community,” said Colin Blair, CEO Standards Australia.“The new standards improve what is already a very sound set ofstandards, to effectively manage the possible threat of legionnaires.“The objective of the new Standard in the suite, AS/NZS 3666.4, isto provide a performance-based approach to air handling systemmaintenance to assist users in the control of microorganisms,” Mr Blairsaid.Mr Blair said the efficient completion of the standards projectsdemonstrated effective committee participation. The new Standardsupdate AS/NZS 3666 (parts one, two and three, with a new part four). The AS/NZS 3666 series relates to microbial control in air handling andwater systems in buildings. Here are some tipsto help you avoid common mistakes:• Use the three inch rule: never cold mounta bearing with inside diameter larger thanthree inches (75 mm).• When cold mounting smaller bearings, always apply 360 degree support on thering being mounted and apply evenpressure. For example, never mount abearing on the shaft by applying pressureto the outer ring.• Bearings with inside diameter larger than3 inches (75 mm) should be heatedbefore mounting.NEVER directly strike any bearing. Bearing steel is very hard and brittle, and can shatter on impact.Content and pictures courtesy of SKF @ptitude ExchangeVol 25 No 1
