In life, the fine granular material is much denser than is represented in this diagram.Detailed evidence for this proposed structure may be found in <strong>Hillman</strong>, (1986), <strong>Hillman</strong> andJarman, (1991) and <strong>Hillman</strong>,(2008).This clarifies the following problems:(i) the apparent dearth of light micrographs showing astrocytes and oligodendrocytesin healthy nervous tissue;(ii)the lack of membranes around the neuroglial „cells‟;34
