TACTIC S-3 Identifying Required Personal Protection (Page 3 of 4) Identifying Required Personal Protection (Page 4 of 4) TACTIC S-3GUIDELINES FOR PPERESPIRATORY:A NIOSH approved air purifying respirator with an organic vapor cartridge may be used under conditions whereairborne concentrations are expected to exceed permissible exposure limits. All employees need to be fit tested forthe particular brand and model they will be expected to use.A Respiratory Protection program that meets OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910.134 and ANSI Z88.2 requirements must befollowed whenever workplace conditions warrant a respirator’s use.THIS PAGE DELIBERATELY LEFT BLANKSKIN:The use of gloves impervious to the specific material handled is advised to prevent skin contact, possible irritation,absorption, and skin damage.Recommended Use: Depending on conditions the use of aprons and or arm covers may be necessary.Note: These are just recommendations; each company may purchase and use their PPE of choice. Below is asimple guideline for petroleum PPE selection. It is still necessary for a “competent person” to determine PPE usagefor each specific response incident. Surgical grade gloves are not a recommended substitution for industrial usechemical protective gloves. Excellent resistance to cuts, snags, punctures, and abrasionsProvides excellent abrasion resistance and protection from most fats, acids, and petroleum hydrocarbons.Poor for most organics (consult a competent person prior to use).Highly impermeable to gases. Excellent protection from aromatic and chlorinated solvents. Cannotbe used in water or water-based solutions.Exceptional resistance to chlorinated and aromatic solvents.
