The purposes of decontamination are to:• Minimize worker contact with contaminants.• Prevent spread of contaminants to clean areas and exposure to personnel there.• Remove contaminants from equipment to allow its reuse.Decontaminate asmuch as possibleNOAdditional emergencycare required?Site classification zones (cold, warm, hot) must be established prior to setting up the decon area. A decon areamust be established before response personnel enter the exclusion zone (hot zone). Decon methods should bedetermined according to the contaminant, PPE used, and environmental conditions at the time (temperature, location,etc.). An appropriate level of PPE should be worn by decon personal to avoid contaminating themselves.
