Rod network beltsTECHNICAL INFORMATIONThe service life of rod network belts depends on the operating conditionsHere are a few guidelines which must be observed when using rod network belts.Exessive belt tensionIn general the belt tension should be setso that the belt is carried perfectly in thedrive sprockets. Do not over tension thebelt.Take-up and jockey rollersTo ensure an optimum service life, thediameter of the roller should be at leasttwice the size of the pitch (spacing) of thewires in the belt i.e. a 7.26 mm pitch (spacing)should be at least 15 mm diameter. This figure is not the minimum but it willgive optimum belt life. The diamter of thetake-up and jockey rollers when the belt isback flexing should be at least five timesthe belt pitch (spacing) i.e. 7.26 mm pitch(spacing) should be at least 36 mm. Werecommend this as a minimum diameter.Using rollers without groovesThe underside of the belt will wear iftransfer rollers without grooves are used. This will shorten the belt life expetancy.Alignment of the drive sprocketsTo ensure smooth operation of the belts, the drive sprocket teeth must be in truealignment. This is ensured by using Märtensdrive sprockets as a mark is machinedinto the side. If all the drive sprockets aremounted with the mark on the same sidethen the drive teeth are in line.Inaccurate pitch of the drive sprocketsWhen using drive sprockets produced byother manufacturers, it is possible thatthe pitch and tooth shape are inaccurate. In order to obtain an optimum run of thebelt, Märtens drive sprockets should beused.Oscillations during the belt runOscillations cause excessive belt wear butoften cannot be prevented. To obtain anoptimum service life, oscillations shouldbe avoided/minimized.Faulty connectionThe wire rods in the connection area mustbe straightened again after establishingthe connection. This applies both to connectionsmade by means of an interwovenwire rod as well as when using connectiontubes. Drive problems can occur if the wirerods in the connection area are badly bent.In addition, the following points mustbe observedStraighten or replace bent or broken wirerods.Connecting tubes are available for repairs. It is possible that we may require a longerdelivery period to supply a replacementfor a worn rod network belt. It is thereforeadvisable to stock spare lengths. All transferand drive elements should be checkedfor wear and replaced, if necessary, beforea new rod network belt is drawn into theconveyor. The conveyor must be carefullycleaned. After installing the belt, it must be checkedthat the belt runs straight and thedrive engages correctly. The conveyor mustbe readjusted without delay if there areany problems. Attention must be paid tothe running direction of the rod networkbelt.Any build-up of product in/on the rodnetwork belt, the drive an/or transfer elementsmust be removed without delay.Running direction© MÄRTENS Transportbänder GmbH & Co. Push tube ”C“ on to a wire end.2. Push the wire lying opposite intothe other opening in the tube(using two pointed pliers makesthis easier).3. The tubes can be fixed by squashingthe ends by means of pliers.4. If necessary: Straighten bent wirepieces.VIII The rod network belt is ready for use.© MÄRTENS Transportbänder GmbH & Co. Rod network beltsENDLESS CONNECTIONS BY INTERWEAVING A WIRE RODBefore making the connection, remove a wirerod from the belt. This is then used as a connectingwire rod.IPlace the ends of the drawn in belt parallelto each other and hook the two final loopson belt ends A and B together. (It is notnecessary to hook together the final loopson small belts.)II Weave the wire rod removed earlier into themeshes of belt ends A and B (if possible startwith the two middel meshes).III 1. Unhook the final loops in fig. I.2. Beginning with the mesh which hasalready been interwoven, weave theconnecting wire rod, as illustratedhere, to the right an left throughboth belt ends up to the gear wheeledge.IV Unhook final loop C from belt end A.V Hook the first bend of the gear wheel edgeon the connecting wire rod to the first bendon the gear wheel edge on belt ends Aand B.VI Use a screw driver to hook the final loops onthe connecting wire rod to the gear wheeledge on belt end A.VII 1. Hook final loop C on belt end Ato the gear wheel edge on the wirerod above and hook the final loopon belt end B to the connectingwire rod.2. Then align the connecting wire rod.Note:Items V+VI are not applicable in the caseof rod network belts without a gear wheeledge.
