Design information<br />

Installation for open flue operation<br />

In open flue operation the boiler room is subject to the following<br />

requirements:<br />

& Avoid air contamination through halogenated hydrocarbons (e.<br />

g. as in sprays, paints, solvents and cleaning agents); alternatively<br />

operate in balanced flue operation<br />

& Avoid very dusty conditions<br />

& Avoid high levels of humidity<br />

& Protect against frost and ensure good ventilation<br />

& Provide a drain in the boiler room for the blow-off line of the<br />

safety valve.<br />

& The maximum ambient temperature of the system should not<br />

exceed 35 °C.<br />

& Install the Vitopend near the chimney stack/duct.<br />

If these instructions are not observed, any consequential losses<br />

directly related to any of these causes are excluded from our warranty.<br />

Clearance for maintenance work<br />

& 350 mm above the boiler for servicing the integral expansion<br />

vessel.<br />

& 700 mm in front of the boiler or DHW cylinder.<br />

Chemical anti-corrosion agents<br />

Corrosion is generally avoided in properly installed and operated<br />

sealed heating systems.<br />

Never use chemical anti-corrosion agents.<br />

Some manufacturers of plastic pipes recommend the use of chemical<br />

additives. In such cases, only use anti-corrosion agents<br />

offered by the heating trade, which have been approved for boilers<br />

with DHW heating via single-walled heat exchangers (plate-type<br />

heat exchangers or cylinders) (DIN 1988-4). Observe the<br />

VDI guideline 2035 [or local regulations].<br />

Heating circuits<br />

For heating systems with plastic pipes, we recommend the use of<br />

impermeable pipes to prevent the infusion of oxygen through the<br />

pipe walls. Provide system separation in heating systems with<br />

permeable plastic pipes (DIN 4726). We deliver a separate heat<br />

exchanger for this.<br />

Technology<br />

Underfloor heating circuit<br />

Install a temperature limiter into the flow of the underfloor heating<br />

circuit to limit the maximum temperature. Observe DIN 18560-2.<br />

The underfloor heating circuit should be connected via a mixer.<br />

Low loss header<br />

We recommend the use of a low loss header for systems with a<br />

water content in excess of 10 litres/kW.<br />

Safety valve/overflow valve (heating water side)<br />

The hydraulic assembly of the Vitopend <strong>100</strong> includes a safety<br />

valve and an overflow valve.<br />

Opening pressure:<br />

Safety valve 3 bar<br />

Overflow valve ≈ 250 mbar<br />

Water quality/frost protection<br />

Unsuitable fill and top-up water increases the level of deposits<br />

and corrosion and may lead to boiler damage.<br />

& Thoroughly flush the entire heating system prior to filling it with<br />

water.<br />

& Only use fill water of potable quality.<br />

& Soften fill water with a water hardness above 3.0 mol/m 3 ,e.g.<br />

with the small softening system for heating water (see the<br />

<strong>Viessmann</strong> Vitoset pricelist).<br />

& An antifreeze additive suitable for heating systems can be<br />

mixed with the fill water. The antifreeze manufacturer must verify<br />

its suitability.<br />

Drinking water quality<br />

From a water hardness of 3.58 mol/m 3 and higher, we recommend<br />

the use of DHW cylinders or a water treatment system in the cold<br />

water supply when heating DHW.<br />

DHW connection of the gas fired combi boiler<br />

The Vitopend is not suitable for use in conjunction with zinc-plated/galvanised<br />

pipes.<br />

Sizing the expansion vessel<br />

A diaphragm expansion vessel is integrated into the Vitopend:<br />

Inlet pressure 0.8 bar<br />

Capacity 24 kW: 6 litres<br />

30 kW: 10 litres<br />

Vitopend content 1.2 litres<br />

When making the water connections, check that the size of the<br />

expansion vessel matches the system conditions.<br />

Install a second expansion vessel on-site if the integral expansion<br />

vessel is not large enough.<br />
