A ‘Maha Meru’ is placed in front of theAmman at <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Sivan</strong> <strong>Temple</strong>. The Maha Meru consists of 43 triangles. LordShiva is represented by 22 triangles looking upward and Goddess Shakthirepresented by 21 triangles looking downward. It bestows harmony,good health, positive thinking, purity, prosperity, progress, protection,and peace of mind. It is believed that by worshipping the "Maha Meru"the love and affection between the husband and wife will be improved.1.Rice Flour‘Rice’ stands for prosperity and hence it is used in the powder form.During abishegam rice powder is mixed with water and then poured onthe deity. It is also believed to eradicate the burden of debts and povertyon devotees.2.TurmericTurmeric, a symbol of auspiciousness has many healing properties. So, bathing a deity in turmericwater is considered to bring about prosperity.3.HoneyJust as honey-bee takes only the nectar from flowers, as compared to a fly which sits on bothsweets and filth, we too should train our mind to always focus on the good.4. Panchamirtham (Sweet auspicious delicacy made with five ingredients)Abhishekam with Panchamrtham signifies the offering of our five senses of sight, smell, touch,tasteand hearing to our Beloved Lord so that all we see, smell, feel, eat and listen isonly good.5.MilkMilk stands as a symbol of purity. Bathing the idol with milk gives us a pure heart and a steadymind.6.CurdAlso a symbol of purity.Performing curd abhishekam gives us a clear mind free from the web ofdesires.7.Vibhuti or ash‘Ash’ is the ultimate or final product that remains of anything that is burnt. Symbolically, it urges ustoburn our desires and inspires us to impose a ceiling on our desires and offer the ashes of thosedesires to God.8.Sandalwood pasteEven to get sandalwood paste one has to crush the sandal wood. But the sandalwood spreadsit’sfragrance to the very hands that grind them.
