For almost 25 years, BRAND has offered high-performance plasticproducts for various applications. We start by asking users around the world for input on productdetails, and then select raw materials and design injection-molding tools to ensure thehighest product performance. Finally, the entire manufacturing process is strictly controlled,with quality assurance testing in accredited internal and external laboratories.Starting materialsSensitive applications, such as enzyme tests,PCR or DNA purification, require plastic disposableproducts of the highest quality. Theproper selection of raw materials is a significantstep in the manufacture of high-qualityproducts. Over many years, polypropyleneand polystyrene have earned their place aspreferred materials for life science consumables.These materials often come into directcontact with expensive reagents and valuablesamples.For manufacturing pipette tips, BRAND usesspecially selected PP types, free from theadditives di-(2-hydroxyethyl) methyldodecylammonium(DiHEMDA) and 9-octadecenamide(oleamide). Both of these additivesare frequently found in PP granules, andcan interfere with biological tests, leading tospurious results*.The starting materials for life science productsare carefully selected by BRAND sothat substances that can dissolve out of theraw material (leachables), which could affectthe results of biological tests, are reduced tothe minimum necessary for processing. Moldrelease agents, such as stearates and erucicacid amide, are not used in the productionprocess.Advantages of PPAdvantages of PS(Foto © Fraunhofer/Rafael Krötz) High resistance to chemicalsDeep-well plates and microplates can beused with DMSO and other aggressivechemicals. Good temperature resistanceContainers remain stable even at hightemperatures; these products are generallyautoclavable at 121 °C (2 bar),acc. DIN EN 285. Minimal retentionPCR vessels, micro tubes and tips haveno residual wetting and the material isbiologically inert – no adhesion ofbiomolecules to the surfaces. Good optical characteristicsColorimetric tests like ELISA andmicroanalyses can be carried outwith PS microplates.
