Introduction and WarrantyPaslode Cordless Framing NailerOperating ManualThis manual is intended to acquaint you with the PaslodeCordless Framing Nailer. Unlike other power fasteningtools, the Cordless Framing Nailer is powered by aninternal combustion linear motor. In simpler terms, yourCordless Framing Nailer is powered by a motor similar tothe one that powers an automobile. The CordlessFraming Nailer ignites a fuel and air mixture to producethe energy to drive the motor, which in turn drives thefastener. As you will see, the Cordless Framing Nailer istotally self-contained. It carries its own fuel supply andbattery, along with a supply of fasteners. For ease of use, this manual is divided into sections (seeContents). Each section of the manual is written with you,the tool operator, in mind. We have left out all of thetechnical terms so that you can readily understand howto get the maximum performance from your CordlessFraming Nailer, and how to avoid damaging the tool orinjuring yourself. Fuel Cell and Metering ValveFuel CellWARNINGEXPLOS ION/F IREHAZARDRead ALL safetyinstructions before usingor handling the fuel cell.Failure to follow ALLinstructions may result inexplosion or fire. This maycause serious personalinjuries or propertydamage.Keep the fuel cell awayfrom heat, sparks andopen flame. Do not smokewhen handling oroperating tool or fuel cell.Exposure to temperaturesabove 120°F (49°C) maycause the fuel cell to burst, releasing flammable gas. There is a second container inside the fuel cell. The innercontainer holds the fuel. The space between the innercontainer and the outer cylinder is filled with a gas, called thepropellant, which is under pressure. To eject the fuel, propellant pressure squeezes the innerfuel container, much as you squeeze a tube of toothpaste. This squeezing action ensures that all the fuel is used, andthat the Cordless Framing Nailer can operate in anyposition.Because of this container-within-a-container design, youmight hear the sound of fluid when shaking the fuel cell afterall the fuel has been used. This is the propellant, whichremains between the containers even after all the fuel hasbeen expelled. If you expose the empty fuel cell to extreme temperatures, the propellant gas will expand and could cause the containerto burst, releasing flammable gases.Metering ValveThe metering valve contains a fuel metering system to injectthe correct amount of fuel into the combustion chamber. The red metering valve is the only valve that will operateproperly with the Paslode Cordless framer.redWARNINGSunlight can raise the inside temperature of anunventilated motor vehicle or staorage container toabove 140°F (60°C).Never puncture or attempt to open the fuel cell; it isnon-refillable.Never incinerate, reclaim or recycle the fuel cell.Never smoke while installing or operating the meteringvalve or tool.Never inhale the spray.Keep out of the reach of children.Store fuel cell(s) in well-ventilated areas only.NOTE1. Never attempt to reuse the metering valve!Replace with fresh fuel cell/valve, and disposeof spent cell/valve properly.2. When replacing fuel cell also clean or replace airfilter for optimum tool operation.NOTE: Altitude RestrictionPaslode Cordless tools are powered by an internalcombustion engine and are effected by altitude. Thetool may lose power or not cycle consistantly atelevations of 4000 feet or greater.10

Fuel Cell and Metering ValveInstalling Metering Valve to Fuel CellTo install the metering valve to a fuel cell:1. Press downward on the front side of the valve (stem side) until it seats.2. Press downward on the rear of the valve unti it seats.3. The valve is now completely seated on the fuel can and can be inserted into the tool.1 2 3NOTE:Paslode Cordless fuel cell are marked with an expiration date on the bottom of the can.For maximum performance use fuel before expiration date.DANGERPaslode Cordless Fuel Cells are flammable.Do not smoke when installing the metering valve!Paslode Cordless Fuel Cell Disposal GuidelinesPaslode the industry leader in cordless technology provides this information to assist users with the proper disposal of discardedfuel cells. Acceptable disposal options vary depending on the type of fuel cell users. All users must consider federal, state andlocal solid waste regulations to ensure that discarded fuel cells are disposed of properly. Users must contact their local solid wasteauthority for further guidance.Discarded fuel cells (used or unused) may be considered hazardous waste under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act(RCRA) depending on several factors as described in the paragraphs that follow. Upon disposal used and unused fuel cells may beclassified as ignitable hazardous waste (waste code D001) under U.S. EPA regulations.Hazardous waste generated by homeowners and contractors who perform routine maintenance for homeowners in their homes arenot regulated by RCRA. In general, "household wastes" generated by homeowners and their contractors are exempt from hazardouswaste regulation because those wastes are expressly excluded from the definition of hazardous waste. For example US EPAhas excluded as "houshold waste" aerosol cans that contain residual product and propellent. Thus under federal hazardous wasteregulations homeowners and contractors may dispose of discarded fuel cells as general refuse in a properly permitted municipallandfill. These users must still contact their local solid waste authority to determine if any state or local regulation prohibits orrestricts such disposal.Paslode takes no responsibility for proper fuel cell disposal. Proper disposal remains the responsibility of sellers and users. Allsellers and users must contact their local solid waste authority to determine if any federal, state or local regulation prohibits orrestricts disposal. Users may obtain more information about U.S. EPA hazardous waste regulations at the following internetaddress: www.epa.gov/epaoswee.osw/hazwaste.htmAlternatively users may contact U.S. EPA's RCRA Superfund Call Center at 1-800-424-9346 to receive more information.11

Preparing the Paslode Cordless Framing Nailer for UseFastenersThe Paslode Cordless Framing Nailer drives Paslodeclipped-head nails and RounDrive ® nails, which have beencollated into strips. The use of nails that do not meet Paslodestandards could cause tool damage and void your warranty.Paslode nail sizes and types are illustrated in the Fastenersand Applications section.Loading FastenersSTEP 1: To load, pull the follower handle back to the rearlock position (button will pop out).STEP 2: Insert a strip of nails and release follower bypushing on button.Lockout FeatureThe purpose of this feature is to prevent needlessblank cycling, which could waste fuel and damagetool components. Five (5) nails will be left in themagazine when the follower reaches the lockoutarea. The indicator arrow shows that you can reload. It does not indicate that the Cordless Framing Naileris empty. Because of a lockout feature in theCordless Framing Nailer it will not operate when thenail supply in the tool is less than six (6) nails.Paslode Cordless Framing Nailer andOutdoor WeatherUse the Cordless Framing Nailer outdoors, in clear weather, when the nailer, fuel cell, and battery are between 20°F (-7°C) and 120°F (49°C.HOT WEATHER OPERATIONThe Cordless Framing Nailer requires cooling of the motorassembly to operate properly. The fan normally providesthe necessary air flow to permit continuous operation.Whenever the Cordless Framing Nailer is idle for extendedperiods, keep the fuel and tool out of direct sunlight and insurroundings where temperatures will not exceed 120°F(49°C). After extended periods of continuous use, it may benecessary to cool the motor by setting tool aside for 10-15minutes or until the tool operates normally. An overheatedtool may not drive nails completely or may operate erratically.COLD WEATHER OPERATIONThere is a reload indicator on follower and tool. A full stripcan be loaded in this area as shown above.Fuel cells at cold temperatures lose the required propellantforce. Bring the tool, battery, and fuel cell above minimumoperating temperature without direct exposure to flame, andcheck the battery.CAUTIONThe Cordless Framing Nailer should not be used in therain or where excessive moisture is present. The useof the Paslode Cordless Technology under theseconditions may result in damage to tool componentsand cause tool to malfunction.13

Maintenance should be started only after thetool is completely inoperative.Periodically check the battery indicator light in the handleof the Cordless Framing Nailer. When encountering aproblem, the first step should always be to make sure thebattery has enough energy to operate the tool.Fuel Cell CheckIf the Cordless Framing Nailer's fan operates and the lightis green, but the tool will not cycle or does not drivefasteners completely, check the fuel cell. With the fuel cellout of the tool, check to see if the cell still contains fuel andthat the metering valve is working. To determine if there isany fuel left in the fuel cell, hold in the upright position andsimply place the metering stem against a solid object, andgently push about three or four times. A small amount of fuelshould be released each time.DANGERWear safety glasses when performing this test. Neverperform this test near an open flame or sparks, whilesmoking, or where the fuel may get into your eyes.If fuel is not released with each operating of the meteringvalve, this indicates that there is no more fuel left in thecylinder and it must be replaced. Dispose of the empty fuelcell properly.Clearing a JamAn occassional problem you may encounter is a jammedfastener. Because of the unique design of the CordlessFraming Nailer, clearing a jammed fastener is easy:1. Remove the fuel cell and battery.2. Lock follower back in magazine and remove fasteners.3. Loosen the (2) magazine mounting screws with the5/32 hex key.4. Pull handle/magazine away from the nose of the tooland clear jam.5. Realign handle magazine to nose, and tighten mountingscrews.6. Reload fasteners and release follower. When the work contacting element is pressed on workpiece, the fan motor will turn on and blinking green light willturn solid green. If the light blinks red or glows red, rechargebattery.MagazineMountingScrews16

ServicingAir FilterWARNINGMake certain magazine mounting screws are tight andmagazine is tight to nose. Attempting to fire tool with aloose magazine will result in loss of nail control, damage to tool, or nail discharge toward operator. When you get home:1. Place the battery in its charger if it needs charging asindicated by the red charge light on the handle.2. Wipe your Cordless Faming Nailer with a clean, softcloth.3.
