PERIODICALSPOSTAL CUSTOMERECRWSSbe orientedGettin’ It Together in the O.C.Suppose you’re a new student at MHCC,just figuring out how to navigate thecampus, how to get the classes youwant—how to get lunch, for that matter.Or, you are a current student, interestedin how to use the online registration system.Maybe you’ve been out of schoolfor awhile and are restarting your education, with financial aid questions orveteran services questions, or…What you need is a convenient placeon campus with all the informationand answers, and maybe with a coolSoCal TV show nickname. OK, that lastpart isn’t really important, but it just sohappens that MHCC’s new O.C.—OrientationCenter—is opening this fall inGresham 97030 in Room AC1002.“The O.C. is designed to be a line-free,customized, ‘sit down and let’s talk’center for new, restarting and currentstudents,” says Sydney Eustrom,MHCC’s manager of Student Outreach. The center will house 20-plus computersand serve as the go-to site for students toget oriented or reoriented on the registrationprocess, MyMHCC (the college’sonline gateway for students), supportservices, general financial aid procedures, online payments and more—allvia one-on-one support.“The O.C. improves on a system inwhich new students had to complete 11steps in up to seven different locationsin a process that took anywhere fromfour days to four weeks. The O.C. will reducethe steps to just three, locations tothree or fewer, and time to 48 hours orless once a student’s admission form hasbeen processed,” Eustrom continues.“For many, the college-going processisn’t an intuitive thing that automaticallymakes sense. It’s a process withits own vocabulary, ever-changingprocedures and a road map of options,”says Eustrom. “The O.C.’s purpose isto walk (or run) students through thestarting points, thus setting the tone fora successful kick-off to their educationaljourney.”The O.C. hours are Monday – Tuesday,8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.; Thursday, 8 a.m. – 7:30p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. For moreinformation, please call 503-491-6927.SAVE THE DATEFoundation AnnualAuction & DinnerA Benefit for MHCC StudentsSaturdayApril 26, 2014Red Lion Hotel on the RiverFor information call 503-491-7206.Visit us online at mhcc.edu/foundationor email at give@mhcc.edu.APPLY FOR ADMISSION ATmhcc.edu/admissions2completecollegeplacement testThis schedule is published to provide information to the general public.
