Alternative base materials –
valuable and sustainable
Klasmann-Deilmann uses other base materials for substrates in combination
with peat when they are shown to have suitable properties and
improve plant development: in other words, when their use makes
horticultural sense. In the main, these base materials are produced by
Klasmann-Deilmann itself:
· TerrAktiv, compost for potting soils;
· GreenFibre, wood fibres;
· TerrAktiv FT, fermented wood fibres.
Additionally, clay, sand, coconut fibre and other materials are added to
recipes to achieve particular substrate properties.
TerrAktiv and composting
Since the early 1990s, Klasmann-Deilmann has been operating its
own composting facilities at which residual green waste is recycled and
processed into compost suitable for substrates.
