His on the field duties include coachingthe catchers as well as assisting with the pitchersand hitters. During games, he serves as the team’sfirst base coach. Off the field, he will assist withon-campus recruiting as well as other day to daybaseball operations.During his first season with the Jays, Tormoehlencoached senior catcher Carson Vitale. Vitalewas an all MVC honorable mention selection aswell as a draft pick of the Texas Rangers. Defensively,Vitale had a stellar senior campaign, compilinga .992 fielding percentage with only two errorsand one passed ball.In the summer of 2009, Tormoehlen was thehead coach of the Grand Lake Mariners of theGreat Lakes Collegiate Summer League. His Marinersfinished the season with a 25-10 mark, finishingin second place in the league. He also ledthe Blue Team to a victory in the league’s all-stargame.In the 2008-2009 school year, Tormoehlen wasan assistant coach at Indiana Tech, an NAIA programin Fort Wayne, Ind. There he coached the hittersas well as the catchers and outfielders. Offthe field, he was in charge of the team’s strengthJay Gundy is in his first year as Director of<strong>Baseball</strong> Operations for the <strong>Bluejays</strong> and will assistwith the administration of the program.Prior to joining the <strong>Creighton</strong> staff, Gundywas an assistant coach for three years at GardenCity Community College in Kansas. While there,the Broncbusters won 106 games en route to oneJayhawk West Conference Championship. Gundycoached 14 All-Conference players, one ConferencePlayer of the Year, one Conference Freshmanof the Year, four All-Region VI Players, one firstteamAll-American, one Rawlings Big Stick awardwinner and seven Academic All-Americans.In the summer of 2008, Gundy coached theSpringfield Sliders of the Central Illinois CollegiateLeague. The Sliders finished first in the regularseason and won the final CICL championship,winning the best two-out-of-three series.Gundy’s coaching career began as an assistantat <strong>Creighton</strong> Prep High School in Omaha, Neb., in2005. He stayed with the Prep staff for two yearsbefore going to Garden City Community Collegein the fall of 2007.Gundy’s playing career began in Omaha, whereand conditioning program along with coordinatingteam travel arrangements and recruiting.Prior to Fort Wayne, Tormoehlen spent twoseasons as a high school JV coach. He coachedfor Noblesville High in the 2007-2008 season andBishop Chatard High in the 2005-2006 season.During the summers of 2007 and 2008, he was ahead coach in the Indiana Bulls <strong>Baseball</strong> Organization;one of the nation’s premier amateur travelbaseball organizations.Tormoehlen played his collegiate ball at Butler<strong>University</strong> under head coach Steve Farley. Hesaw action behind the plate as the team’s startingcatcher for the 2004 and 2005 seasons, but a tornlabrum sidelined him for his 2006 senior year. Aftera successful rehab of his throwing shoulder, hewas able to get back to action as a role player onthe 2007 squad. During his career he compiled a.972 fielding percentage.Tormoehlen graduated valedictorian fromBrownstown Central High School in Brownstown,Ind., and graduated from Butler <strong>University</strong> in 2006with a degree in secondary education. He spenttwo years in the classroom teaching high schoolmathematics before moving to Omaha, where hecurrently resides.Jason GundyDirector of <strong>Baseball</strong> OperationsNebraska-Omaha (2003)First Seasonhis was a member two state championship teamswith Ralston High School in 1995 and 1996. The1996 team finished the spring season ranked No.24 in the country by <strong>Baseball</strong> America magazine.Gundy received All-Nebraska honors as an outfielderfollowing his senior season (1997). Aftergraduation, Gundy attended Garden City CommunityCollege where he was a two-year starterfor the Busters in left field. During the 1998 and1999 seasons, Garden City won its sub-regionaltitle each year, advancing to the Junior CollegeWorld Series in Gundy’s sophomore season, thefirst time a GCCC team had done so. That yearGundy received All-Jayhawk West honors as anoutfielder after leading his team to a Region VItitle.After leaving Garden City, Gundy attendedIndiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he wasnamed Academic All-Conference. The Warriorsfinished third in the 2000 NAIA World Series.Gundy returned home to Omaha following hisplaying career to finish his degree at the <strong>University</strong>of Nebraska-Omaha in 2003.
