Honoring A Dream Season<strong>2011</strong> <strong>Baseball</strong>20 Years LaterThe 1991 team was the most prolific team inBluejay history. They still hold numerous <strong>Creighton</strong>team and individual records, including battingaverage (.355), at bats (2,544), runs (667), hits(904), total home runs (107), wins in a season(51) and putouts on defense (1,805). To this dayit has been the only <strong>Creighton</strong> team to make it tothe College World Series.<strong>Creighton</strong> won many fans that seasonand with the city of Omaha pulling for them, Rosenblattbecame its second home. Fans lined the streets tomeet and greet their favorite Jay, slept outside and overnightto get tickets, and caught Bluejay Fever. Junior ScottStahoviak, named the American <strong>Baseball</strong> Coaches Association’scollege Player of the Year, said in a 1991 interviewthat “All the attention is new to us. It’s amazing. My firsttwo years here, I don’t know if anyone knew we had abaseball team - to tell the truth - other than the Jaybackers.”(Omaha World Herald, Monday June 3, 1991).On the 20-year anniversary of the Colllege World Series appearance, the 1991 team is being inducted into the Omaha Sports Hall ofFame this spring. The Hall of Fame honors athletes and coaches who have highly excelled on their field of play. The Jays join fellow membersof the <strong>2011</strong> class including Don Benning (UNO wrestling coach), Pat Fischer (NFL football player), Dave Hoppen (Nebraska careerscoring leader in basketball), Susan Marchese (18-time state golf champion), and Jack Payne (WOWT and CWS announcer).
