This new tax will be applied in additionto the current sales tax rates. The measure passedwith 59 percent of the voters supporting the taxand 36 percent opposing the tax. Currently, thereare no dispensaries located in the City limits. Inanticipation of an application for a dispensarybeing submitted, in November of 2009 the CityCouncil passed a strict ordinance that dictateswhere dispensaries can be located, mandates safetyprecautions such as police background checks onemployees, and requires that a public hearing beheld in front of the City Council prior to openingso that the needs and concerns of the communitycould be heard. In addition, the November 2009ordinance states that if the State of Coloradoadopts stricter rules than the City, the stricter ofthe two sets of rules will apply.
