Stations from 30 Years of IPM ESSENStarted in 1983 with around 100 exhibitors from the plants sector in onefair hall, IPM ESSEN was, in 1986, already able to integrate the Florbedatrade exhibition and thus to give the starting signal for the fruitfulcooperation with Fachverband Deutscher Floristen ("Trade Association ofGerman Florists") since then.In 1989, the range on offer was completed by horticultural technology.The constant growth and the increasing internationalisation were alsoreflected in the refinement of the IPM logo which contained a stylisedglobe in 1989; in that year, 21,800 visitors were interested in 550exhibitors from 15 nations.In 1992, the mark of 30,000 visitors was bettered for the first time; in1994, there were already 37,000 visitors who met up with 800 exhibitorsfrom 23 countries.Zentralverband Gartenbau (ZVG - "Central Horticultural Association")became the ideal sponsor of IPM ESSEN in 1996 and Messe Essenwelcomed over 1,000 exhibitors (precisely 1,050) to IPM ESSEN for thefirst time in 1997.In 2000, the ever increasing number of visitors was taken intoconsideration and the duration of the fair was extended to four days. Nofewer than two ministers came to the opening ceremony: Karl-HeinzFunke, Federal Minister of Agriculture, and Bärbel Höhn, Minister ofAgriculture from North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2001, the new Fair Hall 3was available for the first time. The times when exhibitors had to presenttheir products in a tent (as the Italians did in 1998) were now a thing ofthe past thanks to the 17,000 additional square metres.Until today, the Florist Event Center and the Horticultural Info Centerhave been essential pillars of the Green City which has been successfullyestablished as a new feature in Hall 1A since 2004.On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of IPM ESSEN, 1,400 exhibitorsfrom 42 nations and 57,800 visitors from more than 90 countries came in2007.In 2008, the Innovation Showcase presented by Messe Essen and ZVGwas successful from the outset. Since then, international breeders havebeen able to put themselves forward here as candidates for marks ofdistinction in various categories for their innovations.

Important visitors adorned the opening ceremony of IPM ESSEN in 2009:Ilse Aigner, Federal Minister of Agriculture, and Mariann Fischer Boel, EUCommissioner, honoured the event.After discussions with exhibitors and visitors, the Advisory Board for theFair made the decision in favour of the new day assignment of IPM ESSENin 2010: Since then, it has taken place, to the applause of the body ofexhibitors and of the visitors, from Tuesday to Friday and has registeredeven greater internationality and even greater professionalism of thevisitors. In 2011, the exhibitors were even more satisfied with the numberand quality of the visitors as well as with their internationality. 60,000visitors were interested in the products of 1,508 exhibitors from 47countries.
